About this listen

From the New York Times bestselling author Lisa Scottoline, a novel of suspense and emotional justice.

On paper, Chris Brennan looks perfect. He's applying for a job as a high school government teacher, he's ready to step in as an assistant baseball coach, and his references are impeccable.

But everything about Chris Brennan is a lie.

Susan Sematov is proud of her son Raz, a high school pitcher so athletically talented that he's being recruited for a full-ride scholarship to a Division I college, with a future in major-league baseball. But Raz’s father died only a few months ago, leaving her son in a vulnerable place where any new father figure might influence him for good, or evil.

Heather Larkin is a struggling single mother who lives for her son Justin's baseball games. But Justin is shy, and Heather fears he is being lured down a dark path by one of his teammates, a young man from an affluent family whose fun-loving manner might possibly conceal his violent plans.

Mindy Kostis succumbs to the pressure of being a surgeon's wife by filling her days with social events and too many gin and tonics. But she doesn’t know that her husband and her son, Evan, are keeping secrets from her—secrets that might destroy all of them.

At the center of all of them is Chris Brennan. Why is he there? What does he want? And what is he willing to do to get it?

Enthralling and suspenseful, Lisa Scottoline's One Perfect Lie is an emotional thriller and a suburban crime story that will have listeners riveted up to the shocking end, with killer twists and characters you won’t soon forget.

Perfect Lie

I really enjoyed this book. A few really good twists and turns to keep me guessing. Somewhat predictable in a couple of places but on the whole I really recommend this book. I did in fact stay awake almost the entire night listening. It was one of those books that I didn't want to stop listening to. I call it a "binge book" 😊

Best Narrator I've heard

The narration makes this book what it is. Listening to Newbern speak the lines is like being inside a movie. I always thought that Scott Brick was my one, true love, but the talented Newbern has ousted him in my heart.

As for the story- the last hour really brings it down form a 5 to a 3. Scottoline dies two stupid things. She tries to create an action scene that is simply absurd. Just stay away from helicopters , Lisa . The big , heart pounding scene just smacks of triteness as well as absurdity.
And I wish that authors would keep their politics out of their tales. It just ruins a good listen.

I give the book a 5 right up until the last hour.
Still enjoyable, but she lost me when she went political and Diehard on me.

Not a normal Scottoline but very good

Have Love Scott Illini's series of female lawyer books for years and I've heard her speak many times and she is an absolute wit. So this was a whole new experience for me. I barely recognized it as one of hers however since I like David Balducci, Michael Connelly etc. it's stood up to those guys . George Newbern The narrator was excellent also

People in Wyoming don't have accents

I love all Lisa Scottoline's books and recommend them to everyone I know who reads. No one knows, or writes, Italians like she does. The Vendetta Defense actually gave my husband a whole new understanding of, and appreciation for, me when he listened to the audio book. Just when I believed her research was meticulous and above reproach, a former Wyoming resident in this book told another character, he believed to also be from Wyoming, he had lost his accent. That would never happen in a million years. People in Wyoming don't believe there is such a thing as a Wyoming accent.

A Real Thriller.

Excellent storyline. Held my intetest, even during the side stories. Memorable ending, with a romantic close.

Promising Beginning with a Formulaic End

If you are an avid reader of this author, then I imagine this is a great use of a credit. I was a bit disappointed because I generally don't like any romantic undertones in mysteries, just a complex story. The narration was well done.

Good story

I enjoyed the story and liked the twist around the main character... though I felt it came fairly early in the book. the performance was good and seem to match well to the characters.

just ok

I thought this would be better. The story and the who is it was predictable. Good beach read but that's it.
