About this listen

From the New York Times best-selling author of Come Home comes a riveting thriller about one man's search for his wife's killer.

When Dr. Mike Scanlon is called to serve as an army doctor in Afghanistan, he’s acutely aware of the dangers he’ll face and the hardships it will bring his wife, Chloe, and their newborn baby. And deep inside, he doesn’t think of himself as a hero, but a healer.

However, in an ironic turn of events, as Mike operates on a wounded soldier in a war-torn country, Chloe dies at home in the suburbs, in an apparently freak household accident. Devastated, he returns home to bury her, only to discover that the life he left behind has fallen apart. He’s a stranger to his baby girl, and his medical practice has downsized in his absence. Worse, he learns a shocking secret that sends him into a downward spiral.

Grief-stricken, Mike makes decisions upon returning to Afghanistan which will change his life forever. It’s not until he comes home for good that he grasps the gravity of his actions, and realizes he must fight the most important battle of his life, to reclaim his life and his daughter. Along the way, he discovers that everything is not as it seems, and he learns ugly truths about those he loves the most, as well as the true meaning of heroism.

Another excellent book that kept me riveted; I continuously tried to guess "who did it". I really like this writer and the narrator. GREAT listen!!!

FRENCH ACCENT HORRIBLE

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

Overall I enjoyed the book.

What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)

Predectable.

What three words best describe Jeremy Davidson’s voice?

Could of been better.

Was Don't Go worth the listening time?

I enjoyed it, but it was predictable.

Any additional comments?

Jeremy's french accent was horrible. I lived in France for many years and I didn't recognize it at all. Also the way he pronounced several places were incorrect. He should of researched and got it right. It took away from the story that he couldn't pronounce some military locations correct.

Complex compassionate lovely

I was afraid this book would turn me off since it sounded like another Afghanistan intrigue story. It is so much more. Turns and twists everywhere and I didn't even guess who the villain was until it was actual right in front of my auditory senses. Evidently, I loved it. Narration was excellent, also. No twangy, raspy or guttural intonations. Just a warm soft voice telling a hard story.

Annoying

I found almost every character to be annoying in one way or another. The narration was fine except when he did the two sisters...that female with an accent portrayal was awful. Actually, I'm only halfway through the book. I want to know who left her there to die, but I'm not sure I can get through the rest of it. Mike is a wimp, allowing his sister-in-law and brother-in-law to bully him. They are annoying characters. His partner was annoying. I have tried several of Scottoline's books. This will probably be my last. They all sound like a good story line, but then somehow, it just always gets annoying in the portrayal of the characters.

Not Your Usual Lisa Scottoline

I was very disappointed in this book. First half was OK. Ending was terrible.........unbelievable characters and actions. Narrator was OK for some parts but definitely not OK for others. French accent didn't bother me as much as the Philadelphia accent, which was demeaning. I'm from Philadelphia and I don't speak that way.

A real life story.

What did you like about this audiobook?

Top five out of hundreds.

How has the book increased your interest in the subject matter?

As a veteran, I am already familiar with the subject matter. I love the way the author reveal the inner struggles of a soldier in a way where civilians can understand some effects of war.

Does the author present information in a way that is interesting and insightful, and if so, how does he achieve this?

I appreciate the fact that the author didn't paint a picture of living happily ever after. Love the details of reality without gore.

What did you find wrong about the narrator's performance?

Really nothing but if you research any story you'd find exaggerated points.

Do you have any additional comments?

An absolute must read. This would be a great assigned reading for high school students.

This book caught me by surprise.

If you could sum up Don't Go in three words, what would they be?

Fresh. Ingenious. Engaging.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Don't Go?

The integrity of each and every character held. People didn't change suddenly to suit the storyline. The storyline weaved around the characters and who they were

Which scene was your favorite?

The scene in the grass at the end.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Mostly how touchingly everybody grew together, and towards the end grew together for the love of the little girl Emily.

Any additional comments?

The author, one of my personal favorites, did an amazing job of conveying both integrity in the characters & in the integrity of her storyline. I found myself deeply caring about most all of these characters. It was an excellent book.
