About this listen

Small-town librarian Kathleen Paulson gets plenty of entertainment from her extraordinary cats, Owen and Hercules. But when a theater troupe stumbles into more tragedy than it bargained for, it’s up to Kathleen to play detective....

With her sort-of boyfriend Marcus calling it quits and her ex-boyfriend Andrew showing up out of the blue, Kathleen has more than enough drama to deal with - and that’s before a local theater festival relocates to Mayville Heights. Now the town is buzzing with theatre folk, and many of them have their own private dramas with the director, Hugh Davis.

When Davis is found shot to death by the marina, he leaves behind evidence of blackmail and fraud, as well as an ensemble of suspects. Now Kathleen, with a little help from her feline friends Owen and Hercules, will have to catch the real killer before another victim takes a final curtain call.

I love these stories! Great humor and wit. I love the characters.

They are murder mysteries without all the gore! Thank you! I am excited to listen to the rest!

loved it

I love this narrator and how she seems to really be interacting with the cats. My favorite thing is the conversations she has with Owen and Hercules.

I'm still enjoying this series despite everything

But if it wasn't for the cats I'd have dumped it several books back. The h remains just as indecisive and melodramatic as ever and the author feels compelled to often state the obvious, just in case we didn't pick it up the first time (surely if you're reading a murder mystery you WANT to figure out yourself). But, I really do enjoy the way she writes those cats - obviously a long time cat owner. And she has improved her technique for writing action-suspense; was actually bearable this time (although I was still mentally thinking "get on with it!")
Maybe I'd enjoy these books more if I sped up the reading speed a bit but 1 of the reasons I listen to this series is for relaxation

On going cat magic

I’ve been reading the first 4 installments and decided to give book #5 a try on audible. The narrator does a good job bring out Kathleen, Owen, and Hercules personalities. Slightly odd when she narrates male characters with obviousness low tone. I laughed a bit about that but eventually got used to it. It is best to read /Listen this series in a chronological order but no biggies if you don’t. The author always gives a coherent two-three sentence of summaries of what went on with previous books. I’m wishing more cat powers displayed to help in crime solving and I also hope to learn a little bit more about the hows and whys of their magical ability. I enjoyed the story because of friendship, cats, and the romance between Kathleen and the detective. Fun read/audible if you love cats and strong female lead.

Excellent

This series is excellent. Each book gets better and better. The characters are well developed and the plots captivating. The plus to me is the Narrator. Cassandra Campbell performs flawlessly. I just love her narration.

Very good love story. And surprise ending

The problem is: I've been looking at the previous books in the series as mysteries. Upon further review, they are more love stories. And they worked somewhat as love stories.

As a love story, this is the best of the series thus far. Kathleen has to choose between two men, Andrew, her former fiancé who traveled to Mayville Heights, MN to try to woo her back. And Marcus, the police detective who wasn't sure she trusted him. Of course, Kathleen loves Marcus. But it took a surprise visit from her mother to convince both Kathleen and Marcus.

Oh, and who did it? Caught me off guard. I was sure it was someone else.
