About this listen

Georgie Quinn and the filly Sweet Bells are an unbeatable team. When they win the Breeders' Cup Classic against colts, the world can't seem to get enough. Overnight, Georgie becomes the face of horse racing, and Sweet Bells becomes its queen.

Although they're the morning line favorites, Georgie feels like she's barely keeping her head above water. Her parents' farm is a crumbling has-been, her jockey career consumes her time, and Harris Armstrong, heir to Tupelo Stud and grandson of Sweet Bells' owner, won't forgive her for telling a lie that kept her family together as the truth ripped his apart.

Georgie refuses to apologize, so she's stunned when Harris asks her to ride his new colt. The most tenuous partnership in racing has begun. One that threatens to swallow Georgie whole.

Amazingly Realisctic!

This book was ever so good! I really enjoyed the characters and that they put in the work for life and relationships! There was no easy way out. Real life is hard and takes time and there are breaks and the world doesn't turn on its head just because times get hard. This book really tells a story that I truly believed. The way the author knew so much about the racing world and horses made it all the better! Brilliant performance by the narrator as well. Well worth the time and Credits! Finding Daylight

Any additional comments?

Audible has this listed as Sport/Other which is wrong. It's a Young Adult/Teen book.

It took me a couple of chapters to get into the story, but I ended up really enjoying it.

This is a well written good, clean, sometimes sweet HEA story of young love set in the world of high stakes horse racing. This book has family drama, secrets, lies, heartbreak, hope, dreams, romance and more all combined and woven into a really good, enjoyable and entertaining story.

Great characters especially of coarse Georgie and Harris.

Pleasant voice but narration does not always flow smoothly. While she does have a nice voice, Georgie is 17 at the start of the book, her voice is too old for the story. Some of the characters also seem to have different accents at times. I would listen to her narration again but it needs to be a story that fits the maturity of her voice.

What a shame

Such a wonderful story ruined by a mediocre narrator... Her monotone droning, sleep inducing voice that stumbled across her words were irritating.

YA equestrian fiction at its best!

What made the experience of listening to Finding Daylight the most enjoyable?

The racing scenes hold an extra kick when listened to compared to read. They are so well done that listening puts you there on the horses back, racing along with the other horses and riders with Georgie and her mounts.

What other book might you compare Finding Daylight to and why?

It's very difficult to compare Finding Daylight to other books. It has the drama and romance aspects of many other young adult novels, but keeps you grounded in the world of horses in a way that very few other books have managed, in my experience.

Which character – as performed by Pat Friia – was your favorite?

Overall Georgie, the main character, was my favorite character performance. She remained the most consistent throughout the novel as far as narration went.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Georgie Quinn takes the racing world by storm--but at what cost?

Any additional comments?

While I thought that the narration was enjoyable, I did find that most of the characters seemed a bit disjointed in how they were read. The accents would change from scene to scene, causing it to be slightly difficult to keep track of certain characters. Sometimes they would be southern and other times not, which I found confusing as I listened.

At times the sentences also seemed a bit broken and choppy. This didn't ruin my enjoyment, I just didn't feel as connected at certain points.

If you are a fan of horse racing this is a book for you. The tale of complicated family dynamics, blended with young love and love of horse racing follows two families as they live their lives.

The narration was well done. The characters were excellently portrayed.
