About this listen

When Claire Parker left Sanctuary, West Virginia, she thought it was for good. But now she’s back, reeling from an ugly divorce. Readjusting to small-town life is harder than Claire expected, so she’s surprised, and grateful, to find companionship in Willow, an abused Thoroughbred mare. Willow is Claire’s "whisper horse", and they share a special, rare bond. Except Willow isn’t the only one helping Claire heal; Willow’s ruggedly handsome veterinarian, Dr. Tim Arbuckle, is sympathetic…and secretive.

Devastated by his wife’s death, Tim thought he’d never find love again. The stoic, sexy doctor was sure he’d left his heart behind when he came to Sanctuary. But Claire stirs up the kinds of emotions he thought he’d buried long ago. For the first time, the doctor can see past his grief…until Willow falls gravely ill. Tim and Claire must save Willow’s life and, surrounded by the majestic mountains of West Virginia, believe in a love so encompassing, so intimately intense, their lives will never be the same again.

Loved this book and performance!

As I thought this book would have more horse content I thought I would be disappointed. The story and passion in which it was performed was anything but disappointing. Even with the the horse "Willow" only making a small portion of appearances. The power that equines have to heal not just one individual but an entire family was, by the end of the story, felt and understood. Anyone who listens will either seek out or relate to the power of a horse and the energy bestow.

Sweet romance novel?

A diversion from the deep and dark thrillers and mysteries I have been listening to however a bit too sweet. I did find it rather bold the use of the word "cock" frequently in this book! Yes, of course there was sexual activity in the story, but I thought that choice of word was a bit pornographic in what I thought was more of a sweet romance type story.

Why so much explicit sex???

Been wondering if this was a horse/healing type story or a book on sex.

Sweet and sexy

Had more sex than it needed to be a beautiful love story. The love of human and horse shows that touch and caring is all we need

It was ok

The story was ok. Some stuff unbelievable... Like a horse just having had surgery being able to eat French fries.🙄 Narration was stilted, and almost mechanical at times. Just awkward.

Story for any book lover!

I am not ordinarily a romance reader, but the backdrop of horses drew me in. I enjoyed the interwoven story line, with twists I didn't expect. I'll look for more like this!

I thought I liked Nancy Herkness' books, but...

I LOVE THEM after listening to all three of the Whisper Horse novels. I have this dream of moving to a small town, living the simple life, becoming involved in the simple lives of animals and now I can with these books. it's very rare (never happens) that I miss a set of characters so much that I relisten to the books, just so I can return to the places Nancy describes, the world her heroins live in, and the strong and abiding love of the heroes she has imagined. when I consider which are my favorites, I would say Take Me home is at the top, with the place I belong second and country roads in third, just because after reading take me home, I was none too interested in what happened with Paul the lawyer, and certainly didn't think to question anything about Julia Castillo. I also think the whisper horses themselves in books 1 & 3 are more interesting than 2. all in all, I'd say read them all!!

Predictable

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

Not really....ok story but very predictable...

What could Nancy Herkness have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

A little creativity

What about Shannon McManus’s performance did you like?

The narrator was very good. The only reason I stuck it out

Did Take Me Home inspire you to do anything?

Good Story

Good Story with a tough secondary story. There were times when I wanted to shake the h at her obtuse behavior with Paul as he is obviously into her while she is into the H. Definitely worth the listen/read.

Too much sex!

What made the experience of listening to Take Me Home the most enjoyable?

I didn't finish this book. I kept trying to skip through the explicit sex scenes because I was interested in the plot, but it was difficult to do this without missing parts of the story, so I gave up.

How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?

I'm not sure. If the author thinks the sex scenes are important to moving the plot along, then that's her business, and I guess some readers/listeners are interested in that. It's just not for me.

What does Shannon McManus bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

She did a fine job; I just couldn't hang in there.

Any additional comments?

Please don't recommend any more books for me by this author. She gets great reviews, so I'm sure she has lots of fans; it just isn't the kind of book I enjoy listening to.
