About this listen

Finding Family: My Search for Roots and the Secrets in My DNA was a Global Ebook Awards gold medal winner and a Next Generation Indie Book Awards finalist. It is Richard Hill's true and intensely personal story of how he pieced together the long-kept secret of his own origins. This highly suspenseful book is a compelling saga of personal detective work that will appeal to anyone who loves a good mystery. But this isn't fiction. It's an engrossing account of an adoptee trying to reclaim the biological family denied him by sealed birth records. This fascinating quest, including the author's landmark use of DNA testing, takes listeners on an exhilarating roller-coaster ride and concludes with a twist that rivals anything Hollywood has to offer.

As the author described his adulthood quest for answers it was like he relived the events and all their details during which he took me along as a guest in the front row . I did enjoy this book and when it was done i wanted more. . more by the author. . more by the narrator. .more similar books to keep me going.
The narrator's voice was perfect for this book's content. His speed, tone, and inflections narrated the story as i imagine it was meant to be.
I know I'll listen to this selection again, more than once probubly, and I do not regret this selection and purchase.

His story gripped me

I was afraid this book might be rather dry. but it was anything but! I found myself anxiously awaiting the next chapter, or my next ride in the car. Although I was not adopted, I did get a surprise when I had my DNA tested. So his story also applied to my circumstances.

Interesting from start to finish

This book was hands down the best audible book I've purchased thus far and the narrator did a wonderful job. Richard Hill went to great lengths to share his story in great detail; making certain to captivate his readers. The moment I started this book I couldn't walk away from it. I found myself listening to it at work, in the morning while putting on my makeup and in the car. Not only was his story very inspiring; considering, I'm currently awaiting my DNA results; he also included a lot of helpful information for those of us not knowing what to do next. Thank you Mr. Hill for such a great book!

Masterpiece!

I really enjoyed this book. It is well written, both in terms of the story itself and in making what can be a complex topic (genetic genealogy) easier to understand. The narration was also excellent.

A gifted storyteller, Richard Hill welcomes listeners into his world as he tracks down the identity of his birth parents. Along a journey of highs and lows, he shares investigative tips and modern genetic genealogy concepts contributing to solving his adoption mystery. Although Finding Family is a true story and a genealogy tool, it’s well-written and easy to glide through over a weekend. Richard Hill’s fascinating account, combined with the availability of genetic genealogy DNA testing, gives adoptees and family tree sleuths much hope to uncover hidden roots of the past. I first read Richard Hill’s book upon its initial release. And inspired by his story and writing style, I revisited it this year as I began to document research into my family’s 120-year-old adoption riddle surrounding a murder. I recommend taking the time to listen to Richard Hill’s Finding Family as you welcome and appreciate your own journey of discovery. I loved this audio version of Finding Family. The narrator’s voice was warm, enjoyable, and entertaining.

An Interesting and Entertaining Book for Adoptees and Family Genealogists Who Want Answers.

Kept my attention

This was an amazing story. I'm not adopted, but I could relate to the frustrations of false leads and incorrect conclusions about researching my ancestors. I also learned a bit too.

Relatable

I loved this book. Very well written -- easy to follow the story with various people and places, complicated topic made simple to understand. The author's sense of humor made me laugh out loud many times. I found myself talking back to him out loud, to cheer or encourage him along the way. The details he gives about how he did his research are great for generating ideas about how to search for your own family. Particularly in this electronic age, it's a great insight into how research was conducted before the Internet. It will trigger research ideas for modern searches. After completion of the book, I felt like a member of the family. I would have loved to see photos of the people in the book, I don't know if the print version had any, but the audiobook doesn't of course. The only thing I would change is that I would have preferred to hear the book read by the author.

Great story and insight for research
