About this listen

Finding Stevie is a dark and poignant true story that highlights the dangers lurking online.

When Stevie’s social worker tells Cathy, an experienced foster carer, that Stevie, 14, is gender fluid she isn’t sure what that term means and looks it up.

Stevie, together with his younger brother and sister, have been brought up by their grandparents as their mother is in prison. But the grandparents can no longer cope with Stevie’s behaviour so they place him in care.

Stevie is exploring his gender identity, and like many young people he spends time online. Cathy warns him about the dangers of talking to strangers online and advises him how to stay safe. When his younger siblings tell their grandmother that they have a secret they can’t tell, Cathy is worried. However, nothing could have prepared her for the truth when Stevie finally breaks down and confesses what he’s done.

gender fluidity and teenage angst

another great read by Cathy. Once again she shows us a child who is lost and becomes their light to find their way. Stevie was lucky to have you in his corner every step of the way. with your expertise and professionalism, you not only saved him, but his family too :) strong work!

Good not great

Another fine story from Cathy Glass, although certainty not my favorite. There just wasn't as much to it as the others I have read. I love how selfless, accepting, and wise she is and enjoy how she has grown as a person in this and other books that took place in her later fostering years. Recommended for Cathy Glass fans but if it's your first book by her I'd start somewhere else.

perfection as always!

Another fabulous listen by both author and narrator. Cathy Glass is definitely a thorough storyteller and draws a vivid picture of the triumphs and failures of the fostering system. On to the next!

No Sheriff In This Town

Starting with the positive, Denica Fairman is a wonderful narrator and has an impressive vocal range. I could listen to most things if she narrated them.

Now, I have read every Cathy Glass book (disclaimer: not out of enjoyment- just because I can’t not finish a series) and I’m about 98% sure that they are all either total BS or very heavily embellished.
Cathy is obviously either Mother Teresa herself or hoping to be canonized on her own merits.

Now, Stevie…
This particular child did not deserve the tidy little gift wrapped ending that Cathy loves to dole out like MuMmY ChRiStMaS (ugh spare me). His crimes were unforgivable and he faced no repercussions. I really hope that she is spinning one heck of a yarn with this one, because if not? Wow.
