About this listen

A new memoir from Sunday Times and New York Times bestselling author Cathy Glass.

When Cathy receives a call about a terminally ill widower terrified of leaving his son all alone in the world, she is wracked with sadness and indecision. Can she risk exposing her own young children to a little boy on the brink of bereavement?

Eight year old Michael is part of a family of two, but with his beloved father given only months to live and his mother having died when he was a toddler, he could soon become an orphan. Will Cathy’s own young family be able to handle a child in mourning? To Cathy’s surprise, her children insist that this boy deserves to be as happy as they are, prompting Cathy to welcome Michael into her home.

A cheerful and carefree new member of the family, Michael devotedly prays every night, believing that when the time is right, angels will come and take his Daddy to be with his Mummy in heaven. However, incredibly, in the weeks that pass, the bond between Cathy’s family, Michael and his kind and loving father Patrick grows. Even more promising, Patrick is looking healthier than he’s done in weeks.

But just as they are settling into a routine of blissful normality, an unexpected and disastrous event shatters the happy group, shaking Cathy to the core. Cathy can only hope that her family and Michael’s admirable faith will keep him strong enough to rebuild his life.

A star shines through

Her books are always written and read like a mirror into her life. I sit here in tears and I’ve read this one a couple of times now. The love Lisa “Cathy” has for all people really shines though. While we’ll never meet in real life, I feel like I know her through her books. ❤️ Please don’t hesitate to buy and read all of her books.

Touches Your Heart and Soul

As usual Cathy Glass' book is one that reaches out to you. Only this one is a bit different than her other books I read, as most readers have probably lost someone to cancer or known someone who has. The fallout of these losses is never easy only there is a young boy who is about to lose his parent. Both Cathy and her family are impacted by the loss as well.

I'm a CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) volunteer who works with children in foster care or transitioning back home after foster care. I would suggest all CASA's read this book as it brings up things I've not thought of if I ever get a child in the same situation.

As an American, I've had to get used to some different vocabulary words and generally look up between 5 to 10 words that I can guess the meaning from context but I just wanted to make sure I was correct. I listen to many of the books and the person reading them does and excellent job! In listening to them it also brings a bit of England into my home.

The Night the Angles Came

I have been a foster parent in the USA for Thirty years and I enjoy the stories. I often can compare one of her cases to one of mine but this story is one I have not experienced with a younger child. It is sad but heartwarming. I did have a early teen girl that came to me with both parents deceased. She lived with us until she was 18 and heading for College. We are still in touch five years later.

Wonder story

Sad but well written and not about abuse or neglect but of a loving parent doing the best for his son. Thank you Cath Glass for your work and books

Excellent!!

This is my second book of Cathy Glass that I have read, like the first one I couldn't put it down. Cathy pulls you in so that you become part of the story, I felt every emotion, sad, happy. I was so happy that this story about fostering was not because, of physical or mental abuse and had a happy ending. Would I recommend this book? I just did.

made me cry

Michael's story made me cry. I knew his father was going to pass and when it finally happened, I bawled just as they did. once again, Cathy and Denica are amazing storytellers. I needed a break for the abuse stories and this was perfect. Cathy, your words of encouragement and love always shine through. fantastic work.

Wonderful book.

Another great book. I have now read all of Cathy Glass' books and am looking forward to the one coming out in September. This story is slightly different from the others in that the little boy she fosters doesn't have the many emotional and behavior issues but this story is equally moving and touching.b I typically read he Audible versions so that I can clean and now and drive while listening.

Wonderful book! So heartbreaking for Michael. I love all of Cathy's books and the person she choose to read them makes them that much better.
