Publisher's summary

Too smart to be “just” a racehorse, too talented to hang out with other lesson horses, and too proud to believe in fairy tales, Milo chose a lonely path in life. He didn’t want cuddles, treats, friends, or even love until the day he met Claire. Her love opened his heart, but it would take nudging from a very special horse to finally open his mind.

Barney learned early that love wasn’t a gift you earned, but rather one that could only be given freely. His unique perspective on life was just what Milo needed to let go of the pride that held him back. From lonely, to family, Barney and Milo find the acceptance they each thought would never be theirs.

I am not a horse person but..

OK, I did not go through a horse phase, I did however, spend a few summers on a working ranch in western Colorado. During those summers I got to know a few horses very well, I also got to know where the low hanging branches were when they tried scrape me off. I also got to know how hard the ground was when they bucked me off, and how cold the mountain streams were when they decided to roll with me in the middle of them. In spite of that, I found this book about these horses delightful! It was well written and definitely geared toward that time in most young girls lives (Maybe guys? But mostly girls.) when horses take over. The story is not too complex, just enough to hold the attention and keep the moral compass. I think the performance was one of the best, upbeat and right on tempo for the material. This is one of the rare occasions when it feels like the author and the narrator are a perfect fit. I would love to see more from both of these artists!
