About this listen

For fans of The Glass Castle, Educated, Know My Name, and The Sound of Gravel.

First, I Believe You is an astonishing memoir of resilience and recovery from severe childhood trauma she had no memory of. Terrifying flashbacks haunted her for decades despite an affluent, advantaged childhood, resulting in severe depression, food addiction, anxiety, and nightmares. Delving into her deepest fears and traumas and refusing to give up, she pushed through every barrier with unflinching courage. Don’t miss this compelling and gritty story of the enduring power of love.

I had a hard time following the story due to the recording. It seems the author was drinking from a cup or moving items while doing the recording. Her voice would fade in and out at times. Very distracting. Too bad as the story is very good. I suggest reading it.

Bad Recording, Good story

I learned a lot from the authors story. I have reacted to situations in ways that were out of proportion with the facts. The pain I felt was not even close to the level of the event. There are many other hints I picked up about my history of abuse. I wonder what I don’t remember. Thank you Carol Boyce for your bravery to tell your story!

Honesty and courage to tell her story

The story is wonderful. The edited recording is choppy, crackly, and distracting. The narrator is monotone.

Lovely story, sloppy recording
