About this listen

Do you sometimes feel as if you're just going through the motions in life? Are you good at looking and acting as if you're fine, but secretly feel lonely and disconnected? If so, you are not alone. The world is full of people who have an innate sense that something is wrong with them - who feel they live on the outside looking in, but have no explanation for this feeling and no way to put it into words.

If you are one of these people, you may fear that you are not connected enough to your spouse, or that you don't feel pleasure or love as profoundly as others do. You may drink too much, or eat too much, or risk too much, in an attempt to feel something good.

Running on Empty will give you clear strategies for how to heal, and offers a special chapter for mental-health professionals. In the world of human suffering, this book is an emotional smart bomb meant to eradicate the effects of an invisible enemy.

Great book! Voice is very automatted and monotone.

Great book with a TON of excellent information! Emotional Neglect is they key to understanding the attachment theory AND emotional intelligence so much more, especially when dealing with someone who has sex or another type of addiction! The ONLY negative is that the voice person is VERY automatted and monotone, which can be distracting to the listener.

Eye opening

I have been in therapy for years, and it has done wonders for me. But this book connected the dots for me and finally explained some things I could never really figure out. I still cannot claim how life changing it was as I've just read it but I certainly plan to incorporate it into my life and into my therapy going forward.

insightful

This book helps me see how I've been emotionally neglected and subsequently emotionally neglected my own children. It provides great insight into various parenting styles and their effect on children, ways to heal, and tips for therapists. I especially liked the section on self compassion. Very resourceful.

Great narration and fascinating book

As a counseling grad student and someone who had experienced what the book talks about, I found this book to be interesting and insightful. I’ll be looking for more books from this author and on this topic!

A must read.

I read constantly. Oftentimes I find myself recommending a book to a specific person. This book is different. I recommend it to everyone. A topic that has been visited very little but addresses the hallmark characteristic of our society: the emotionally neglected. This will revolutionise the way I raise my children, change the way I relate to and understand others, and most fundamentally, the way I view myself. I hope all of my friends and family read it, as I want them to realize the benefits that can only come from being able to feel and experience the world around them through the rainbow of emotions we all so often lock up in anger.

A life-changing book.
