About this listen

An amusing Medieval tale on the same wavelength as the highly acclaimed OUTLANDER

Enjoy the complete series now

Being a genius Medical school graduate and a sporty and active girl, Aliya dies suddenly in a car accident... only to find herself reborn in a completely different body in the middle of a half-ruined castle during Medieval times. While confused and dismayed, Aliya realizes she has been given a second chance in life - so she rolls up her sleeves and gets to work on restoring the castle and her new life.

Aliya has an unusual and difficult goal: she is reborn as Countess Lilian; she has to adjust to an unfamiliar world while trying to introduce the everyday conveniences from her familiar modern world. She needs to take care of the collapsing estate of Earton and its inhabitants while living in the past as a disenfranchised woman. Regular robbers and slave-trader attacks won’t leave her in peace, killers and spies, sent by the narcissistic aristocracy, are just waiting for her to show a bit of weakness so that they can strike. On the other hand, there exist a prospect of meeting with her perpetually absent husband whom, by the way, after her rebirth as Countess Lilian, Aliya has never seen.

Her plan is to make the best of her unusual circumstances to make the world better. She is not a girl in trouble waiting for a prince in shining armor - she strives to achieve everything herself.

"First Lessons" is the opening book of the bestselling historical and time travel fantasy "A Medieval Tale" series by Lina J. Potter. The heroine finds herself only at the beginning of a thorny path to progress and happiness. She makes her first steps, building a defense for herself, her new friends, and her rapidly developing business empire - and this is no piece of cake for sure. Despite everything, she has to still go up against the unprogressive and sexist society of the Medieval Ages, with only her knowledge, experience, and strong will on her side. Still, Lilian has to act carefully in order not to draw too much attention to her innovations - she knows she could be praised for her genius, or conversely, accused of witchcraft.

I wish it was longer. It could have been longer. They skimmed a lot and did not go into much detail on the character building.Or storyline.

Great story, wish it had more depth.

So I just happen to have some extra credits sitting around and this book showed up as one I might enjoy. I said why not. Needless to say I have listened to it non stop. I'm used to reading fantasy books with male protagonist so seeing a Woman's POV was really great. Even though I am a man there were things that I found I connected with the character specifically the losing weight part. In this type of struggle will always self degrade myself to motivate me. So i really felt like I could be a part of the story. Can't believe I listened to it non stop. I highly recommend it.

Lucky Me :)

Creative storyline that keeps you interested and spell bound. The main character is a talented, strong and humane woman. I like her view of social justice for the vulnerable in the medieval period.

Could not stop listening

I have read the first five and when I saw the 6th coming out I decided to go back and revisit the entire series via Audible.

The only fly in the ointment is when the narrator “Tiffany Morgan” who is amazing, goes into a new chapter it’s not easy to realize it. No pause or beep or something to let me know a dialogue with other characters is starting up.

I blame editing!!!

LOVE IT!!!!!!

What a great story line.

I loved the cohesiveness of the world the author created. The characters unfold as the story progresses. The main character would be a wonderful friend. I’m hooked, I need to see how things go on in this story. I highly recommend this book to readers in search of a new reading adventure.

Terrific book!

I am patiently waiting for the rest.

Love this series

There were parts that were draggy, and some that was interesting. Nothing that was overly exciting. Probably a day to day type of existence, it might improve with the subplots.

It was okay

I liked the book once I got past certain preconceptions. And got into the swing of the writers sarcasm that cause some minor problem.

Good book.
