Is it snark if you're a dragon?

Nico, a young dragon of barely fifty, is rudely chased from his home by a group of murderous adventurers. Of his entire clutch, only he and one sister remained, but now he is alone. Isolated and hungry, Nico’s magic awakens, bonding him with Cami, a brave young woman.

To hide from the adventurers’ pursuit, Nico takes on human form. However, once they discover that both he and Cami have magical abilities, they are required by law to attend the Imperial Academy.

Of course, he has to hide his true nature, which isn't always easy given a dragon-sized ego.

This is a great story with some decent humor playing off stereotypes of dragons. good character development. Good battle descriptions. Would recommend.

Narration had good voices that you can tell the difference between.

Watching this MC get continually taken by surprise at things that were implicitly and sometimes explicitly revealed to him in earlier chapters is really infuriating. It has a solid premise and NH gives his normal four star performance, but this story just lurches along with an MC who is supposed to be an unreliable narrator, but has a level of cluelessness that really doesn't make sense in the context of the story. Lastly, if you introduce the idea that all young magic users must go to academy in the first couple of chapters of the book, waiting until the last couple of chapters for them to actually get there is really unsatisfying. This is especially true when the middle chapters are peppered with pointless "will he/won't he" go to the academy scenes despite that he has already committed to do so.

The narrator has done an excellent job of bringing the characters to life. The story is interesting enough that I'm eager to see how it progresses through the series. I am somewhat leary of the RPG video game stat type of progression that it has without a proper explanation for it but I've come to accept that this is typical for these type of stories. truthfully that is my only complaint about it and a minor one at that. The story is overall engaging and the characters endearing. I can't wait to find out what happens next.

excellent performance and interesting story.

As I started listening to this book, I thought I was having a stroke or a serious dèja vu episode.
It took me a bit to realize that I had listened to the first part of this story in short story form in a book with a bunch of other LitRPG short stories.
I'm glad I'm not as cracked as I thought.
It's hard to explain how much I loved this book and hope for a second. This story needs to be a series!
Our MC, Nico, is a dragon who is living as a human to get back at those adventurers that raided his nest and killed or stole his sister.
Oswald writes Nico with such artistry. It must have been a lot of fun to flush out and write this non-human character. He is acting like what I'd assume a dragon in his situation would act like and also quite ignorant of human culture and behavior and social skills.
The writing and narration are top-notch!
I am extremely grateful that I was able to get this book for free with the expectation of an honest review.
I truly love this story and can't wait to find out what happens next to Nico and his bond-mate and those who are with them.
I'd give this book 8 out of 5 stars if I could.

I've been waiting for this book since I read the short story version in the litRPG shirt story collection. I loved the story there and wanted more. I can say I wasn't disappointed! Now I can't wait for book 2!

Great book

Truth is I was lost and wondered why I purchased this book during the 1st chapter. But then it got really good and quite funny. I am glad I did not quit the book. Now for book 2. Tim V

Really enjoyable

To me the book, being written mostly from the point of view of a dragon was so fun and interesting that I just could not set it down and listened to it straight through in one sitting. Creative storytelling and great characters make this a book I hope gets a sequel!

My favorite book this far in 2023!

I have enjoyed Oswald's writings, so I grabbed this book to try it out even though I was not highly attracted to the title and summary, though it didn't look bad. No regrets in this purchase.

My favorite parts:
•The character development
•The fun and riveting story, and great connections with past scenes in the book.
•The fun, excitement, and frustration I have with especially the main character.
•The somewhat unique perspective the story is written from.
•The very subtle (I wonder how many I have missed) references to pop culture and other word fun.

I highly recommend giving this read a try if you enjoy fantasy, and especially LitRPG.

Another Oswald Masterpiece

Wow, I loved this book. Told from Nico the dragon's point-of-view. With an ego as big as all outdoors and a thirst for revenge and knowledge he attacks life with his claws extended. And the first thing that happens is finding Cami... Not understanding what he did he accepted this young human to protect her. While doing that he accidentally makes her his bonded dragon rider. The only reason this isn't one of my favorite book for the year is because I hate cliffhangers.
Not since Eragon have I found another dragon book that I liked as well. Well Claws Out is it!
Neil Hellegers is now my favorite dragon performer.
So yeah grab the book and get started on the best Dragon series evarrr!
