About this listen

A groundbreaking book on the true nature of faith deconstruction

Alisa and Tim help the reader to deconstruct the deconstructionists and thus to respond to them, both with arguments and with love and sensitivity. This is a timely book! -- Carl Trueman, author of The Rise and Triumph of the Modern Self

A movement called ‘deconstruction’ is sweeping through our churches and it is affecting our loved ones. It has disrupted, dismantled, and destroyed the faith of so many, and this book can help you not only understand what’s happening but also stand your ground and respond with clarity and confidence.

  • Maybe you have a loved one who is deconstructing their faith, and you are struggling to know how to respond;
  • Maybe you are trying to understand the radical spiritual makeover your friend or family member is going through;
  • Maybe your relationship with a loved one has been strained or even cut off because of your “toxic” Christian beliefs and you don’t know what to do;
  • Maybe you’re experiencing doubt yourself and facing hard questions about truth, God, the Bible, theology and the gospel.

Some who leave the faith feel wounded by the church. Others feel repressed by some of the moral imperatives found in Scripture. For some, it leads to a custom-made spirituality. For others, deconstructing their faith leads them away from the truth into agnosticism, atheism, the occult, or humanism.

In this seminal book, Alisa Childers, author of Another Gospel?, and Tim Barnett, creator of Red Pen Logic, will help you understand what deconstruction is, where it comes from, why it is compelling to some, and how it disorients the lives of so many. You will be able to think through the main issues around faith deconstruction and explore wise and loving ways to respond from a biblical worldview.

Learn to doubt well

It is the responsibility of the church to be well informed and well intentioned when addressing the doubts of the world. So many Christians live their lives not knowing what they believe or why they believe it. Alisa and Tim do a great job explaining why faith matters and the need for reformation over deconstruction. It is one thing to take something apart, it is another to take something apart and put it back together into something better than the original. Great book!

Honesty

This book is Good! I love their honest approach to this topic. They tell you the origins of deconstruction, its problems, and how it leads people astray. Yet they do it in a loving way, not wanting people to be swept up in this movement.

Relevant & Timely

1. Deconstruction one's faith is different than questioning why we believe what we believe and using the scriptures to ground our beliefs.
2. Very well-rounded coverage of what deconstruction is, what it isn't, why it's trending, how to respond, and what we can do.
3. The tone of the book was loving and caring and never condescending.
4. I listened to it over the span of 11 days and am going to replay it, but this time while taking some notes and doing some studying.

An important and timely resource

The deconstruction of Christianity, is a well needed and timely book for today’s culture.

After defining, what deconstruction is, Alisa and Tim explain why this process is so harmful to the individual going through it. Finally, they end the book with helpful advice for friends and family who have loved ones going through deconstruction.

I highly recommend this resource for all Christians, and especially pastors and youth leaders.

Pastor's Broken Heart

This book accurately defines the issues and gives hope for 'reformaton.' Thank you so much. I recommend this book to every parent, grand parent, friend, and sibling of someone 'walking away.' I highly recommend this book to every pastor- whether you or not your personally experiencing this phenomenon- because it's happening in your church and to your people. I'm starting a Q&A after service needing next week! Thank you both Alicia and Tim- Dennis

Wonderful book!

Very insightful, thank you for helping me know how to react and prepare for helping someone in deconstruction. Very glad someone (especially you two!) wrote a book about the topic.

Helpful, Informational, & Interesting

For me it was the info I needed. It explains what it is and gives helpful suggestions how to handle your own emotions. It also teaches how to love someone who might be deconstructing , how to help, and what might not be helpful. I appreciated the stories too.
