Publisher's summary

Rosaria, by the standards of many, was living a very good life. She had a tenured position at a large university in a field for which she cared deeply. She owned two homes with her partner, in which they provided hospitality to students and activists that were looking to make a difference in the world. In the community, Rosaria was involved in volunteer work. At the university, she was a respected advisor of students and her department's curriculum. Then, in her late 30's, Rosaria encountered something that turned her world upside down - the idea that Christianity, a religion she had regarded as problematic and sometimes downright damaging, might be right about who God was. That idea seemed to fly in the face of the people and causes that she most loved. What follows is a story of what she describes as a train wreck at the hand of the supernatural. These are her secret thoughts about those events, written as only a reflective English professor could.

A story of God's grace

Wonderful story of how God's love can reach us in any situation. Adoption by God is a beautiful thing

Unlikely Convert

This book was very well written and loved hearing the author read it. Like how she was led to be a believer by a church that loved. It is something every Bible believing church should do. Her story of her family is so heartwarming. If I ever have a chance to hear her I will attend.

My favorite book

I laughed. I cried. I replayed parts over and over. This book is fabulous. I've insisted all my friends read it. I've read this book before, and now I downloaded it on Audible. Rosaria Butterfield is articulate, challenging and witty. This book challenges me to be a better wife, a better mother, a better person. While Dr. Butterfield may not be teaching in college anymore, she's "schooling" me in a good way. The Holy Spirit uses this book to cause me to pray more and be available for mercy ministry. It's a must-read!

Great Autobiography

There are many things I appreciate about this book. The struggle in Rosaria’s conversion is inspiring and eye opening. It was wonderful to hear her depth of faith and her realization in the shallowness of modern western Christianity.
The second half of the book and her struggle as a pastor’s wife and in living out the Christian message through adoption and foster care is something that I found truly valuable.
Thank you Rosaria! God bless

God spoke to me using this book!

God bless the Rosaria Butterfield and her family. I am blessed to be able to call her my sister in Christ. What an awe-inspiring testimony!! God is so good!!
This book made me examine my beliefs about the gay community. Though I am no homophobe, there is so much that I did not understand about their community. I am thankful for her conviction and conversion. She does not sugar coat the impact that they had in her life. This book made me happy, sad, angry and joyful. I would love to be her neighbor, and hear more of her story. Awesome book, and well read too!!

One critique

Fantastic book, loved loved loved her “The Gospel Comes with a Housekey” book and listened to this as a follow up. My one critique of this book is in the last few minutes: in her description of her foster kid J, she uses the term “mentally retarded” a couple times. While this term used to be a clinical term, it has been abandoned because of the negative stigma attached to it. It is now recognized by the disability community to be harmful and hurtful. She of course is not intending to do so, but it is still a word that should be nixed from spoken and literary vocabulary. Overall a fantastic book though.
