About this listen

Can an always-tardy garlic mogul and a punctual Silicon Valley librarian fall in love?

The world needs garlic, and somebody's got to sell that garlic. Cedric Johnson is that man. But even though he's got just about everything he can wish for, Cedric is still missing one thing in his life: someone special. Fate may be on his side, but he encounters a few distractions along the way - like almost being killed by a UPS truck. Oh, and a little case of blackmail.

Ellie Fontaine is a walking Wikipedia with clear professional goals, but when it comes to landing Mr. Right, she doesn't know jack squat. She gives online dating a shot but ends up with an unappetizing buffet of unibrows and losers. What's a girl to do?

After Ellie saves Cedric's life, serendipity takes over as they continue to run into each other. Their connection grows stronger with each meeting, even though he embodies her number-one pet peeve: He's always late. But even if they can get past their issues and misunderstandings, Ellie's ex-boyfriend, an unscrupulous cop, will do anything to keep them apart.

Five Minutes Late is a hilarious, fast-paced romantic comedy full of snappy dialogue and fun, quirky characters, guaranteed to warm your heart.

Chick Lit by a Bloke

A light hearted, sweet, romantic comedy set in Silicon Valley without a computer nerd in sight. After a chance meeting, a business savvy garlic farmer and a librarian up for promotion continue bumping into each other. Will Cedric get past Ellie's "3 strikes and your out" list? What about Ellie's stalker ex-boyfriend, what trouble will he cause?

I loved Connor, he's so kind and generous. I really hoped he would find love. I cared about Ellie too, and got a bit choked up at one point when she was working through some of her issues. The plot was full of serendipity, things falling into place at the right time and of course a happy ending.

I listened to the audiobook edition which I received free in exchange for an honest review. I wasn't sure how I would feel about a romance narrated by a man, but this book has got me past that prejudice. Michael Ferraiuolo did a fantastic job with both the male and female characterisations.

Sweet, fun, and funny!

Would you consider the audio edition of Five Minutes Late to be better than the print version?

I haven't read the print version of this book. I'm not a huge audiobook person, but it was fun to have the story read to me for a change!

What other book might you compare Five Minutes Late to and why?

The story was very much a classic romantic comedy, complete with misunderstandings and lots of will they/won't they moments. I don't know that I would compare it to a specific book, but it followed the genre well.

What does Michael Ferraiuolo bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

There was a lot of humor in the performance. Characters each had their own distinct voice, which really enhanced the overall experience.

Any additional comments?

A sweet and entertaining read--a classic rom com, but with more of a guy's perspective than most.

A Fun Story

I hated to finish the story because I loved all characters like Tofu, Owen, Javier, and grandpa. This one had a whole town of characters to fall in love with and the only thing I wished was that ending could have had little more details about what happened to Vlad because he played such a big part that it would have been funnier to hear more of him getting into trouble.

Sweet, clean, sometimes corny, but great Romance!

This was a great, fun story -nice and light, but with interesting characters and a cute storyline. Ellie is working hard to find Mr. Right with a clearly defined checklist -her dates, however, are nowhere near her checklist. They are the epitome of everyone's worst fears in dating. While Ellie is in the midst of these insane dates and working toward a promotion at work, she saves Cedric from being run over by a UPS truck. Through a series of goofy misunderstandings and tongue-tied meetings (and an insane ex), they begin a friendship that turns into a sweet romance. The story is full of enough real life events (past and present pains from loss of loved ones, working for a promotion, working to maintain a business) to let you see the true character of the people in the story, but there is also just enough sophomoric male humor and Ellie's crazy dating life to keep the story light, realistic and moving without a lot of angst. It was just what I needed after reading a couple of darker fantasy/ action novels -something I could relax with and enjoy!

Rabid reader

I really enjoyed two of his other stories. I liked this story, and got some laughs, but was disappointed with drop to foul and profane language. Hope other books won’t stoop to this level.
