short Sci-fi story with Political intrigue

excellent character and world building for a short read/listen. No spoiler here, but a warning of a twisted ending. Enjoy!!

Great start to a series

I received a complimentary audiobook copy of this book from the author. My review is absolutely voluntary. I also read along on my Kindle. The story is great! I like the characters and the sequence of events. Unfortunately, I have to say that the narrator was not a good choice for this book. When she was narrating, she was great, the male voice she used was ok, but the female voice sounded like a 10-year-old girl. Other than that, I look forward to the next book in the series. If the same narrator is used for that one, I will most likely opt for the Kindle edition instead of the audiobook, though.

Great Surprise Ending

I’ve enjoyed Rachel Ford’s Time Traveling Tax Man series and was happy to give this new series a try. It’s very different than the other one, but doesn’t disappoint. In Flesh Eaters, the Fords focus on a covert military mission to a world belonging to terrorist flesh eaters to recover a secret weapon the terrorists had been developing to use against the Empire. This weapon is so powerful that the flesh eaters accidentally ravaged their own world with it destroying Empire civilian diplomats in the process. Now the Empire has deemed it a top priority to destroy that weapon before it can be turned on other planets.

The military team is well drawn and it is certainly exciting as they get whittled down trying to carry out their mission. The Empire they serve sounds extremely authoritarian which builds some sympathy for the terrorists even as the authors keep us worried about the soldiers. As so often happens in this style of book, everything goes to hell and hidden agendas begin to appear, which adds substantially to the tension of the novel, The final chapter was worth reading the whole book for. I look forward to finding out what the Fords have in store for our heroes next.

I received this book from Free Audiobook Codes.com in exchange for an honest review.

A Good Start

Flesh Eaters is a start to a new book series. While it gives a good base, I am still no clear what's going on in the overall world created by the authors.
A team on a mission so secret, they don’t know where they are going or what they are doing until the reach space. The mission takes our characters to an alien world where it doesn’t seem like they can win.
This sci-fi story has great characters. While the narrator isn’t the greatest (I have the audio version) she does well making sure each character was at least distinct. The authors' writing endeared you to them especially during the climax where you just want to hold them close.
I like the other all theme, once that isn't unusual for sci-fi but though-provoking never the less. But overall, I feel like I was missing so much. There wasn't the world-building I needed to get into the story.
I am interested in the next book to understand more but I wish this was more self-contained.

I received a free audio copy for an honest review; all opinions are my own.

Great beginning

This is the tenth book I’ve read/listened to by Rachael Ford and the first by both Sara and Judah Ford. Wow! What a varied author. This series is different from from her others I’ve listened to, and they are all different from each other: Traveling Taxman Series, Black Flag Series, Tribari Freedom Chronicles, and An End In Ice.
Several people (various species of aliens) from the Empire are assembled to attempt to destroy a weapon located on a ruined planet. There’s a military captain, doctor and hero, few more for backup, a scientist, reporter and photographer. None of them are aware of the mission details until they are en route. as the group continue to search the compound on the planet, they are becoming more concerned -things don’t seem right. Will any of them make it out?
This book is a great start. I’m intrigued and want to listen to more. There is not a conclusion, instead a surprising twist and lead into the next book.

This is the second book I’ve listened to by this narrator ( Barbara Rich ) and I would listen to another. She has good pacing and voice acting. One of her character voices is very high but I got used to it.

There are no explicit sex scenes, excessive violence or swearing (that I recall).

I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and voluntarily left this unbiased review.

Nice short Sci-Fi

Full disclosure: I received a free review copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.

I enjoyed this short little sci-fi novel. It’s interesting and engaging, and looks like it will be a nice start to a series. Great if you don’t want to commit to a long read. I suspect the next books in the series will be longer. It seems like this book will be similar to Rachel Ford’s other series the Tribari Freedom Chronicles, if you enjoyed that series you will likely enjoy this series.

Narration was sufficient, not amazing, not terrible.

Good story but a little predictable.

Good story but the twist ending wasn't surprising. Character development was good. Weapons tech was believable.
