About this listen

A war bond tour full of eager young women. A sunny town with a dark underbelly. When the Florida Girls start shooting back, will anyone survive?

St. Petersburg, Florida, 1944. Thelma Miles can't stomach injustice. Broke and orphaned near the close of WWII, the 18-year-old joins a troupe of touring swimsuit models, only to find she's stepped into the mafia's lair.

Kathleen Young has a one-track mind, often missing the obvious. Determined to get her emporium out of debt and take her sick husband to California's healing climate, organizing the tour is the first in a series of increasingly drastic measures.

Diving into the chaotic world of late WWII America, L.L. Kirchner’s twisty story carefully explores organized crime, Hollywood spotlights, and the growing pains of a nation. Peppered with real-life characters and in-depth research, this intricate weave of perspectives offers a fascinating glimpse into how this group of fictional women coped when they were told to step aside and let the men take over again.

If you like complex narratives, coming-of-age adventures, and incredible period details, then you’ll love Kirchner’s gritty tale. Florida Girls in the first book in the series, The Queenpin Chronicles which follows Thelma's journey as rapid changes were overtaking the country. Driven to succeed, the women of The Queenpin Chronicles discover strength and brutality and love they didn't know they were capable of.

Weak story

We got this book for book club, the story was not engaging you can’t connect to the caracthers because the stories were not deep enough, it seems that the author is not a writer, but a screen play writer, so you can see that she had the general idea but not the execution.
Good luck with the 2nd book build into the caracthers and it can be better, but I won’t read it.

Engaging Thriller

Thelma Miles is facing the world alone for the first time. Her mother has died and all she remembers of her father is the pinky ring that sliced her cheek as a small child. Hoping to escape and begin anew, Thelma exits her bus for some food but one thing leads to another and she finds herself stranded and beginning her new life as a “Florida Girl!” Swimsuit models, war bonds, and the Mafia – definitely intriguing!

L.L. Kirchner, the author, crafts an immersive, engaging mystery thriller set against a backdrop of innocence, chaos, and organized crime. Her richly developed characters drive the narrative, while sharp and authentic dialogue keeps the action moving at a brisk pace. The unexpected plot twists are riveting, and the time period is captured with accuracy and depth. The storyline flows smoothly, filled with energetic action. The book is well-researched to reflect the beliefs and dynamics of the era.

The narrator, Rickel Hayes, delivers a strong, memorable performance, speaking clearly with deliberate pauses that emphasize suspense and action. She slips effortlessly into each character, her style reflective of the time period, which immerses the listener deeply.

This is an engaging and immersive book that keeps the listener spellbound until the end. I recommend this book to thriller and mystery enthusiasts.
