About this listen

After being brought back from death, police officer Jackson Waverly receives the shock of his life: He has become host to a Bodywalker, a spirit that is reborn in flesh and blood, and part of a proud, ancient race that uses its extraordinary gifts to battle dark, evil forces. Jackson's spirit is a powerful one-none other than the Egyptian pharaoh Menes, who longs to reunite with his eternal love, the Egyptian queen Hatshepsut.

While Menes is obsessed with finding the perfect vessel for his queen, Jackson cannot stop thinking about Dr. Marissa Anderson, the gorgeous precinct shrink who keeps pushing him to confront his grief over the loss of his K-9 partner. But what Marissa really arouses most in Jackson is intense desire, which is exactly what Menes is looking for. To fight a great enemy, pharaoh and queen must join; but to host Hatshepsut, Marissa will first have to die.

Fate has given Jackson a profound choice: Save Marissa from Menes's plan or keep an entire species from the brink of extinction.

SOUL SHARING & LOVE - MAKES IT A 'FOREVER DEAL'

Good second instalment into the Nightwalker world - a love story with lots of supernaturals and their lore of sharing a human's body with a race of long dead Ancients who are each given the chance to come back every 100 years to continue the fight against the Templars who want to take over and control the Nightwalkers.

The last book finished as Jackson took the chance offered him when he died and now he happily shares his body with the very alpha Egyptian Pharaoh Menes who is pinning away for his Queen so, apart from protecting her, they try desperately to convince Marissa (a psychiatrist and someone Jackson had been drooling over) to allow her body to be shared with the deity.

JF builds and explains the Nightwalker world and what they can and can't do and we learn, along with Marissa, the longing that Menes and Jackson have for her to say yes to their heartfelt proposal. However, Jackson wants to seduce her into it (and he does a mighty fine job too) but Menes wants to be more forceful. There's romance, passion, excitement, gargoyles that come to life, action, sex (not too graphic), sub plots and a powerful evil entity has been released so the plot is building up to eventually be cataclysmic.

Worth a credit? Yes, any paranormal romance lover should enjoy the heartfelt decision that Marissa has to make. Unfortunately, it looks like we will have to wait til early next year for book 3 Forsaken - Leo's story (boo hoo).

Ms. Frank does it again

This book represents the awesomeness that Ms. Frank has delivered in all of her other books. This series has proven to be very addicting. Moving the story to another character that was introduced in a previous book and understanding why this person has been chosen to have his own story is great. The author does a great job of building the relationship between Jackson and Marissa and introducing Marissa to the life of the Nightwalker. The narration by Xe Sands was excellent, as in the other books. I am looking forward to her next book in this series "Forsaken".

graphic torture

Great narrator, love the story however, I had a hard time listening to the torture scenes, there was way too much detail for my taste. I never listen to these types of books but it was recommend because of the great love story. well worth the credits for this series though..I'd recommend it!

Good but...

I wanted to love this book, but I am totally on the fence with this whole series. Which is a shame since I’ve devoured every book that JF has written. However, I just don’t care for the whole “bodywalker” thing. Two souls sharing the same body is too confusing to me. Although this book wasn’t quite as confusing as the first one, it still felt like a “ménage à everybody!".

I got this book because it was Jackson’s story and he was my favorite character from Forbidden. Wow! He did not disappoint in this one. The narration was great too.

Unfortunately, Jackson and Xe Sands still didn’t make this a 5 star listen for me. I guess I will have to wait until JF writes another series. In the meantime, I’ll take a pass on the bodywalkers.

The Nightwalker realm expands!

I am excited to be listening to the World of Nightwalkers series. As the Nightwalker realm expands.

But am sad that when I finish this series, there are no more Nightwalkers. Will we learn what the 12 breeds are before the end?

Nonetheless, Jackson/Menes want Dr Marissa Anderson and she wants him, but can she handle both? As well as become a host for another Bodywalker?

Warm but want a little bit more

I guess what I liked most about this book is Marissa. She is a strong intelligent woman who opens her mind to the world of the bodywalkers. But I guess for the second installment of this series I really wanted to see or hear more from Hatshepsut and how she will have to cope with coming back again to her dominating Menes. It is wonderful to see how Menes steps back to let Jackson and Marissa find their way. I would recommend getting this one on sale. There are strong characters and Jacquelyn is trying to build this world of the bodywalkers.
The majority of Jacquelyn’s books are narrated by Xe Sands and she does do a good job of bring the books to life.

On order to live with him, she must die

The second book in The World of Nightwalkers series, this book starts off a few weeks after the last book ended. We are now with Jackson playing body-host to the Egyptian pharaoh Menes. While the blending becomes complete, Jackson must pull away from his old life so that he (and Menes) may rule their people and, of course, avoid sunlight which is harmful to Nightwalker species. However, this means Jackson must pull away from the one woman he can't stop thinking about, Marissa, a psychiatrist in charge of the mental care of the officers in the precinct.

Marissa feels an undeniable pull towards Jackson, but because he was once her patient after he had lost his K9 partner, she believes they must maintain a professional relationship.

Menes is desperate to find a body-host for his beloved Egyptian queen, Hatshepsut, but he feels Jackson's long suppressed feelings for the beautiful and outwardly controlled Marissa and as he and Jackson become even more blended together, Menes realizes that Marissa would be the perfect host for his beautiful queen. There is a big problem, though, Marissa will have to die in order to live forever with Jackson.

The overarching plot of the series is the civil war between the Politics and the Templars. Menes must take his stance amongst the Politics to rule and hopefully put an end to this feud. Additionally, by accident and ignorance, a great evil has been unleashed in this installment, however it was left unresolved and will be the driving evil in subsequent novels.

Overall, this book was a true Frank novel. Well developed paranormal world with a great cast of characters. The romance is filled with burning-hot love scenes sprinkled with the most romantic dialogues I've ever heard. This book sets the stage for a huge confrontation between good and evil and it seems (at least to me maybe because I'm hopeful) that the future books will have the other Nightwalker species involved. This is me speculating because of a reference in the book about other Nightwalkers being a myth also when Frank was asked about another Nightwalker series, a character in particular (TRISTAN, *ahem*), having a book, Frank said to trust her. So, I'm trusting her and trying desperately to be patient:)

Narration:
Narrator: Sand Xe
Performance: 3.5/5
Xe has gotten better in her recordings. Before she was difficult to hear at times because her voice would dip and rise and that isn't good with audiobooks because it forces me to fiddle with the volume of my listening device. In this recording she remains at an audible level, however her rendition of some of the characters sound, well, the word "crumpled" comes to mind. The good thing I do like about this series and the rest of Frank's books is that they use the same narrator for all recordings so continuity is there.

Xe Sands is the best narrator in the universe!

Xe Sands in hands down the best narrator in the universe! I will listen to anything Xe narrate. Period. Mix Xe with Frank you will have Perfection every single time. Book 2 in the world of Nightwalkers is getting good! The only reason why this does not have more stars is because the plot is just not on same level of as Jacob, or Adam or any of the other Nightwalker books. I think Frank will eventullay combine her other nightwalkers into these series because in this book it talks about 12 nightwalker races.... and let me tell you... we still need an end to Gideon son... " Son of Space" from the Nightwalkers books.

Don't get me wrong... this book was great.. but it took far too long for the smexing to beginning and plus we don't even meet the queen in like the last chapter... so what? That is not enough time for us to build an impression of the queen like we have an impression of Menus and Jackson together.

I loved the book...but I think my opinion is sooo onesided because I love love love Xe Sand narration and I love Love Love Frank books.... so there ya go....
