This is part one of Forged in Blood and Book 6 of Lindsay Buroker's Emperor's Edge series. I read the book and loved it so much I had to buy the audio version. Lindsay Buroker never fails-whether she's writing fantasy, science fiction, mysteries, or steampunk. This steampunk series has a great group of characters who display varying degrees of hero qualities in pursuit of honor, statues and the perfect hat. Add non-stop action, snarkiness in spades and a touch of romance rounds out this great addition to the Emperor's Edge series.

Although action packed, Forged in Blood is very similar to the books before it. In spite of the fact that it was a bit formulaic, I still found it entertaining and interesting. I can't wait to finish the series.

I was so excited when this audio book finally became available. I love this story, the plot, the characters, and the personality. This is Lindsay Buroker's first fantasy series, and it's fantastic! The main problem was waiting for the audio book to come out! However, she informed me she was waiting to be able to release Forged in Blood I & II close to the same time because of a huge cliffhanger. I thought, whatever, just release them, I'm ready to finish this series!

Well, she wasn't wrong. I got to the end and BAM! What a cliffhanger. I held my fist in the air and shook it!

This follows Amaranthe and Sicarius as well as the rest of the team. It digs deeper into Sicarius and his thoughts, which is a nice touch, with him being emotionless the entire time, it's nice to get a peak into his mind. The rest of the characters are brilliant as ever, and the team does all they can to infiltrate the city to allow the emperor to reclaim the throne! But it's not as easy as that. Everyone is trying to get the throne now, and no one knows who to trust.

This reminds me a bit of Wheel of Time as they try and conquer the White Tower, but this is more in the outskirts of the city. However, there were a few parallels that were nice.

I love the series, and can't wait to finish it! The narrator for the audio book does a fantastic job!

This one I love because there was so much insight into the assassin's mind. Previously it was more surface thought and deadpan dialogue between him and others. It's still there but way more thought process. The author can really develop a character and she is my favorite.

Waited seems like forever for this to come out. Love this series. I have listened to the first 5 books and 5.5 seems like 20 times already. Its like listening to an old friend whose adventures are sad / funny and captivating. Can not wait for Part 2:)
