About this listen

Sheriff Hayden Duke was born on the starship Pilgrim, like his father, and his father before him.

He expects to die any second.

He's already been attacked by demonic aliens, rogue soldiers, and even the people he thought were his friends.

He's survived. Barely.

Outcast. Forsaken. He's entered a strange new world. A world he knows nothing about. A world he's never stepped foot on before. A world where hope has been buried beneath the claws of monsters and the boots of a tyrant.

They took his wife. He has to find her. He has to survive. Another second. Another breath. He can never give up. He can never rest until she's back in his arms.

They'll try to stop him. They'll try to break him. Of course, they'll try. It won't be as easy as they think. A new hope is rising in an old world.

There's a new Sheriff in town.

the first book and part of this one are all from Sheriff Duke's pov. Then suddenly, we start switching between him and his wife. I'm grateful for the alt viewpoint but why in the middle of the second book? The narrator's character voices are sometimes so close together it's hard to tell them apart. Pretty well written story. Interesting new names for cities. I'll read more.

Somewhat annoying

Knowing how the first book in the series ends, one can guess the main trial/challenge that our protagonist must surmount in this installment. Still the story remains captivating as new characters are introduced and the protagonist becomes acquainted with and adjusts to his new surroundings/way of life. This series feels as if it is/ought to be in the "Alien" sci-fi universe. Again, Davis' narration was enjoyable, and I'm looking forward to the next book.

More linear plot than first book

If you liked the first book in the series... why are you still reading this?? Buy it! Sheriff Duke is back and more badass than ever!

Soooooooo goood!

Very simplistic writing and characters are very black and white with good and bad. The protoganists are too idealistic and unrealistic how a real person would act in the face of adversity.

Hard to finish.

SPOILERS
once it was revealed where they actually were the story lost most of it inherent tension, which had been brought on by the pressure of a time limit due to the virus, the idea that the ship was falling apart and the need to sweep the ship clean because they had no where else to go. after the big reveal, which happened at the beginning of book 2, most of my interest in the story died pretty quickly. I made it through book 2 but to be honest i kept fast forwarding, just to see if he finds his wife. the change in location was a bad idea, the author should have kept the story inside the ship and waited for the big reveal until the end. i wanted my sci-fi space action/thriller, not YET ANOTHER dystopia novel. disappointing.

lost its suspense
