In the year 2280, an alien fleet attacked the Earth. Their weapons were unstoppable, their defenses unbreakable. Our technology was inferior, our militaries overwhelmed. Only one starship escaped before civilization fell.

Earth was lost. It was never forgotten.

Fifty-two years have passed. A message from home has been received. The time to fight for what is ours has come.

Welcome to the rebellion.

Any additional comments?

I like M.R. Forbes. I think his book Starship Eternal book 1 is well worth a full credit.

This book should be 1.99 with whispersync. The story has been done and the narrator speaks very slowly but not fast enough for 1.25 speed.

Not worth a full credit

The reader gets to know everything in advance, and yet, the story and performance are still with you tight.
Worth every minute of listening.

Great suspense

The story was stellar!!! Backing it up with an awesome voice performance, it just made it into an epic series! I can't wait to hear the next chapter!!!

Surprisingly good

Consistent story telling and suspense throughout the book. a few characters began to sound the same, potentially due to all being human and similar region but overall pleased with Jeff Hayes work as usual.

Good

When I first was discovering the wonders of an iPad and Audible Inc., I was a runaway user inhaling new books, authors, and series. I didn't retain much of what I read but then that's the beauty of books. They can be reread or relistened to whenever. After listening to Man of War I think I need to make that journey like I did in 2006 and take my time to savor the delightful menu M. R. Forbes presents! Man of War is action with a purpose and wrapped around a tale of how humanity digs in when the only other choice is to give up. The pathos of War develops strong characters, reluctant leaders, and the usual percentage of snivilers and cowards. Author Forbes creates these so-o realistic individuals and then keeps them busy in little plots and a Plot that is full of action, drama, and all the good things that keep the listener riveted. Jeff Hays gives an almost stellar performance especially the wily Cajun Commander who provides all the momentum and direction that powers the plot. Jeff would have taken home the Oscar if not for a couple of "flat" spots where he was almost monotone in his delivery. But don't fear, it doesn't ruin a very good book. It's too late for the sale but a credit is still a bargain for Man of War!

Can't keep a good Cajun down, even 2280........

What did you love best about Man of War?

Luck and an accidental discovery allow the humans one last desperate attempt to fight back

What did you like best about this story?

I think the realistic development of mechanics of machinery, and the emotional and physical abilities by humans in declining civilization brought on by alien invasion. The alien invasion isn't new to the genre. The reality is - Batteries run out, the characters resort back to primal survival abilities

What about Jeff Hays’s performance did you like?

Jeff Hays is a master at his craft. He can do voices across every spectrum. Timing, empathy for the characters. You can tell... he loves his work and the material he chooses to work on

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
