About this listen

She was my foster sister, her luxurious house the only home I'd ever known. I fell in love with Evie before her doctor parents signed my adoption papers.

They threw me out the day they caught us. Now I'm Dr. Jones, so far removed from who I used to be, it seems like a bad dream. I tell myself nothing can touch me. Until I see the residency roster at Alpine University Hospital.

There's only two incoming neurosurgery residents each year. This year it's Landon Jones - and Evie Rutherford.

Great story, wonderful narration!

This was my first book by Ella James and I loved it! The story was good, the characters were likable, and the narration was excellent. This would have been a 5-star story for me had there been a bit more depth and dialogue when they came in contact with each other again after several years. That part of reacquainting lacked development. It's easy to believe they would fall back to one another given their chemistry when they were younger, but the story would have benefited from working through that transition, not have it be almost instantaneous. Other than that minor complaint it was awesome.

The narration was excellent. Aubrey Vincent is a new narrator for me and I was very impressed! I would gladly listen to her again. J.F. Harding...what can I say...*swoon*...he's one of my top three favorites when it comes to male narrators. He always delivers such a sincere and believable performance. This was no exception.

I'm really glad I picked this one up. I just wish I hadn't let it sit in my library so long before listening. Really enjoyed it!

At some point this story broke me!

This is so beautiful and twisted! Landon goes through so much in his life from such a young age that I just didn’t think he’d make it. Evie is beautiful and loving, and kind, and smart. They just fit together perfectly, but their lives go through difficult times and suffer such heartaches. In the end things just work out for them, they just accept things happen and life goes on. WOW!

good but not great second chance love

This my first time listening from this author. The story was good but not great for second chance love. I enjoyed the narrators and they were definitely a plus by making the story better. I didn't care for the heroine but did understand her feelings. She sounded insecure and immature. I guess if she didn't have the support from her own parents, I can understand her actions. The story was emotional but at times, I didn't feel the connection between the hero and the heroin. I don't want to spoil this story so I will only give my honest opinion. After ten years, they finally met and the story just dive in. The transition didn't feel believable which is fine since this is fiction. Still, I wish it was better in this transition. If you like the narrators and the author, by all means give it a try.

Loved it!

This book has some very heartfelt and at times heart wrenching parts but Evie and Landon do their best to push through it all and find each other on the other side.

Don't get put off by first chapter

It started off really slow and dry... stalkerish monologue then, like ok. girl from your past, no great recognition from her. where is this going? just stalking?
But finally it jumps back to "the beginning " and by the time you reach Part ll (back to present) it makes a little more sense and the dynamic is changed.
Though I really liked the story in the end, I still think the opening was poorly set up and incongruent to the rest of the book.

A heartfelt and lovely narrated story!!

This was such a great listen with heartache, pain and loss but true love prevails. I love Ms. James books. A wonderfully narrated and written story. I am such a fan of J.F. Harding and the angst and passion when I listen to him is so satisfying. Ms. Vincent, I need to hear more from you too because you also made this book a great listen for me. Thanks to everyone involved in this story.
