About this listen

Mary Shelley wished with her classic Gothic novel Frankenstein to "make the reader dread to look round, to curdle the blood, and quicken the beatings of the heart". Mary Shelley succeeded.

Victor Frankenstein finally fulfills his dream of creating his own living creature, stitched together from the macabre remains of corpses. To his horror he finds he has created something even more ghastly than in his worst imaginings. Frankenstein has created a monster with a soul!

Superb narration of a timeless classic

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes, and have in fact recommended it.

What does Daniela Acitelli bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Daniela Acitelli brings a female perspective to a story that has been predominantly male-centric. She gives each character warmth and acts out the scenes, giving the reader a truly emotional experience.

Any additional comments?

Everyone is familiar with the story of Frankenstein. We've read the book, watched the films, but listening to the audio version of this classic gives the story another dimension. This was a joy to listen to.

Absolutely thrilling!

This is one of the few unabridged versions of Mary Shelley's all-time-classic. I'd been looking for a great audiobook version of Frankenstein for quite a while. Well, here it is.

Brilliantly narrated by Daniela Acitelli, whose voice instantly puts you right into the story. Couldn't stop listening. Highly recommended.

This book was given to me for free at my request and I provided this voluntary review.

The Mary Shelley Classic! Do Not Miss!!!

Mary Shelley's Frankenstein is a classic tale and is brought to life by Daniela Acitelli. Ms. Acitellie does the most amazing job bringing this story life. She captures the desperation, anguish, rage, and utter despair of both Victor Frankenstein and his Monster during their monologues. Her performance is something that is truly outstanding and makes this classic tale even more enjoyable. I highly recommend this audiobook. Flawless voice artist

The voice artist was great. She wrung each drop of emotion out of every character. It isn’t easy to enliven a book from 1818, but she has done it beautifully. Cheers.

Wow. Greatly surprised!!

I have never read this book before. I had zero clue that it was so different then movies made it out to be. The book was scary yet thrilling. I was worried it would be difficult to understand. A book written in the early 1800’s had great vocabulary, but atlas I loved it! The narrator made it perfect. So much so that I want to checkout more of her narrations. If you are on the fence about this book listen to me: “You will love it!!” I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

Who is the Monster?

I read this classic many, many years ago, but had forgotten how different the book is from the various movies that have been made from it. It is so much more than a horror story and more the story of a man's descent into despair bordering on insanity, this book will change your mind about what you thought you knew about "Frankenstein".

It is amazing that a woman in the 1800's would write such a book and that makes it even more enjoyable. Ms. Shelley has a wonderful writing style and it really draws the reader into the story. The vocabulary is different and more flowery than a modern reader is used to, but it is very, very well written.

This book is much more than a horror story There is such profound poignancy and sorrow throughout that it makes your heart hurt for the characters. I must admit that since I have seen so many movie adaptations of this book that some of the scenes were called to mind as I listened (and "Young Frankenstein" was one of them!).

The narrator, Daniela Acitelli, does a wonderful job and really puts a lot of emotion into her performance. It added a lot to the heavy emotions in the book. My only complaint is that the speed of the book was a little slow for my taste, but increasing my listening speed up to 1.25x made it perfect!

I was given the opportunity to listen to this audiobook by Audiobook Boom! and chose to review it.

Stunning!

After having seen so many different portrayals of Frankenstein throughout my life on both the big and small screens and in pop culture, I must admit the original story was a very pleasant surprise and surpassed all expectation. This is a heartbreaking and hauntingly beautiful story.

Ms. Acitelli delivered a soulful performance with expertise and gravitas. Her voice has a beautiful timbre and intensity that truly made this listen extra special. This was my first time enjoying this classic tale and I loved every moment, thanks in large part to Ms. Acitelli’s fabulous performance.
