About this listen

The last thing sheltered missionary Evelyn Gibbons wants upon arriving at the South Dakota reservation is to fall in love. Yet, from the moment she clashes with Black Hawk, the complicated man of the Sioux, she knows he’s everything she could ever want, and everything she can never have. Living in the hills with his young son, Black Hawk reveres the ways of his people and is determined to preserve Sioux traditions. But when he meets Evelyn, a woman from the society he most abhors, not even his own prejudices can smother the flame of desire that burns for her. But in the midst of their unlikely romance is a storm tide of treachery and hate that threatens to destroy their love, and their lives.

Predictable

great reader. not too much acting but enough that you can tell who each character is within a page or two. story was predictable all the way through. still it was entertaining.

As Always a great book from Rosanne Bittner

I loved this book. The story was Interesting and as always a lot great historical details in the book that keep the characters in period. The main characters were interesting and the subplots were interwoven enough to make them important and interesting. I would recommend any of Rosanne’s books because they are all that good. I wish there were more to listen to.

The performance was good. The reader had good use of voices without sounding odd or crazy lol. At times I wished for a little more energy in reading but. It enough to make me dislike her narration.

Good Story but Struggled to finish

The performance was OK. I really hated the voices of some of the men. The story was enjoyable enough even with the grating voices. I struggled with the storylines of rape and cruelty. I loved the two main characters but the violence against two young girls made it a tough listen.

Wonderfully written and romantic story!

Well I will be reading more books from this author for sure! The characters and story she created just was everything! So satisfying! It pulled me in and left me turning the pages like watching a beautiful movie! Loved the portrayal of Black Hawk and his people and their plight! The feelings were all there and raw for the reader to see! Loved the woman’s voice that narrated this,,,she even made a native man’s voice and did a good job lol…that’s talent! Loved Eve and the happy ending! I loved it!

a hard book to listen to

this book has 2 part to it part 1 Evelyn and Black hawk story is dull and repetitive no romance Evelyn is a bit too pushy and want changes too soon now the writer has Blackhawk as the fierce warrior, the one all the soldiers feared but I am not seeing it like all the stories with Indians and whites the mighty warrior becomes silly over the white woman I keep reading because I wanted to find about Seth and his adopted daughters if and when they will grow a back bone with all the sexual abuse I would not recommend this book

child rape scenes and racist undertones

I hate to leave bad reviews, but I felt the need to caution others. this was clearly written 20+ years ago and is racially tone deaf. even more disturbing for me, it also contains some fairly descriptive rape scenes of 13 year old girls. I did not enjoy this book.
