About this listen

Becca McQuaid came to England to find the perfect horse but instead met a darkly mysterious challenge in Austen Heath, Baron of Hampton. She’s determined to buy Austen’s stallion Gambler’s Choice. He’s determined not to sell, but the rivals are thrown together by an accident that leaves Austen with a broken leg and the threat he’ll never ride again.

Austen Heath has the title, heritage, and manor house...but not the fortune. Becca is wealthy. Her charms are irresistible, but he believes she’s shopping for a Ladyship to go with her money. He has another reason to hold the sexy blonde at arms’ length - the unexplained disappearance of an old friend everyone thinks was his lover. When her body is discovered on his property, he becomes a suspect in her murder.

Then the killer begins stalking Becca. Who is the slayer haunting Hampton Hall? Is it the Baron of Hampton himself?

Great book! It was a breath of fresh air :)

I really loved this story! It was a refreshing new storyline. It was very easy to love all the characters. This was well written and the characters were well developed. I enjoyed it very much.
Becca and Austin should be rivals...but as the story goes on they develop a friendship that turns into a romance. She stands by him. They encounter many situations that the two of them must overcome. But their love of Gambler's Choice keeps them together. I loved it.

My only complaint about this is the audio was poor quality. The voices were great. But it sounded like they were in a tin can when they recorded this. lol I almost didn't listen to it because of this. But the story was good enough that I tired to ignore it as best as I could.

Loved the Details

I got this story via audiobook boom and this is my voluntary review. This story shows how two determined individuals with different pasts and different future outlooks can come together and form a bond over an animal who is worth the cost that each must pay. They both must get over their pride and come to terms with what is staring them in the face. The narrator was not great but she did infuse the story with the emotions the author wanted to present. The plot twists were well written and made for an enjoyable story. From the cover and the title I thought I was getting a western, imagine my surprise when the story opened with Becca flying in from Dulles airport.

Good Story

Anyone who listens to many audio books knows that sometimes you can have a pretty darn good story and it can either be elevated or dragged down by the narration. Sadly for me the latter happened with this book. The story itself is pretty darned good. Solid. Mystery, Romance, Tension, all built around great group of characters. However, in my opinion, it lost a lot of it's mojo with the narration. I was constantly finding myself distracted by it. It's hard to lose yourself in a story when you're focusing on the voice instead. It could just be me so take what I'm saying with a grain of salt. Listen to the sample first. The story is a good one, and worth knowing. This book was given to me for free and I am providing this voluntary review.

An Enjoyable Romance with a Twist

It took a little while for the story to pick up the pace, but Becca and Austin are compelling. It's wonderful to see their characters come out as the love story progresses. We also get quite the mystery. It's fun to speculate as the story progresses. There's a twist, and I felt vindicated when things wrapped up. This is a voluntary review of this audiobook.

An interesting Romance Novel.

With a well developed plot and a compelling group of characters this story is not only interesting but entertaining.

As with every Audio Book the Narrator is key and delivers the type of performance that enhances the story.

Great Listen

I received this audiobook free for an honest review. The story has suspense and romance. I pretty much figured out "who done it" early in the book. However, the author threw in several twists to try to throw you off track. It was fun listening to some of the British expressions. Loved the horse influence. There were some loose ends, i.e. the rose bush fire at Meg's house. That was never brought up again. The narrator did okay. Some times she used a low voice and some times not. Often I thought she was speaking for Austen, but it was Becca. It confused me. A lot of the time I didn't know who was talking.

Awesome Story, Poor Narration

I really loved the story by Linda Nightingale, but thought the narration hurt. The echo of the narrator sounded like she was recording in a toilet and not a sound booth. The story made up for the poor production. I loved some of the unexpected twists his book has. The imagery in this book was fantastic. I loved how the author also included real events in the book. I requested this review copy audiobook and have voluntarily written this review. I would listen to more books by this author.

This is a great choice of a listen

This audio blew my hear and my ears. It was a first from the author for me and the narrator. The author knows how to keep you glued from the first sentence. The story has love , suspense and mystery .
Hero is Austin. Heroine is Rebecca .
Rebecca is from Virginia from old money. She has one problem.... her heart was broken so she keeps away from any love interest . So she goes to England looking for a horse. At least horses keep their loyalties.

Austin is a Baron in England. He has a title and one thing that might go for him. He rides well almost like he’s one with the horse. Once he sees Rebecca he looses his breath. She’s tall , blonde and blue eyed.

He wants Rebecca at once. But Rebecca sees all the women around him. Will he remove the other women so he can’t Rebecca can be together

The narrator was good. Her voice was clear and she played all the characters well
