About this listen
In a 1625 essay, Francis Bacon called gardens "the purest of human pleasures", and what was true then is even more so today - gardening can give you a serene refuge from the short-lived (and noisy!) distractions of modern life and a fertile basis for satisfaction that will bear fruit long into the future. To help you get started on your own leafy paradise, the new edition of Gardening Basics for Dummies grounds you thoroughly in the fundamentals of soil, flowers, trees, and lawns - and helps you get to know the names of what you're planting along the way!
In a friendly, straightforward style, professional horticulturist Steven A. Frowine shows you how to start growing your expertise - from planning out your own mini-Eden and planting your first annuals, bulbs, and perennials through to laying the perfect lawn, raising tasty crops, and even introducing fish to your landscape! He also digs into the grubbier side of horticultural life, making sure you're as prepared as any seasoned farmer to deal with pests, weeds, and other challenges the earth will throw up at you.
Whether you're beginning with a tiny garden in a box, or beautifying your property with tree-lined groves and flowery bowers, this is the ideal introduction to the intense pleasure of gardening and will make you happy to reap what you've sown!

Story
Compared to Charles' other books, this is more about no dig, eliminating weeds, garden layout, compost making, and using compost. There is also a history of no-dig vegetable gardening in the last 100 years. I want listeners to understand the context and the reasons why no dig has not been much valued until recently, and why it is now. This audiobook has 18 sections, covering the key methods and wonderful results of no dig, from starting with weeds to sowing and planting straightaway, and cropping soon after.

Good information but,
Had some good information for beginners & even maybe for the more advanced. Narration was fine. However this was one of those audio books that really should have received a pdf. I have listened to other gardening books that came with a pdf download, this needs to be one of them.

A good general gardening book for beginners
What I enjoyed most about this book wasn't so much the source material but the narrator, he did a fantastic job and made the more technical information a lot more easier to swallow. The book is designed for general gardening and it does a pretty good job of getting your feet wet if you don't know where to start or have very little information. I think a majority of gardeners both medium and experts will still find good stuff in this book but it will mostly act as a way to test their knowledge. I don't know if I can stress this enough but the narrator was fantastic.
