About this listen

This ''Ghost'' May Not Walk Through Walls, but Walls had Better Not Get in His Way!

Former SEAL Michael Harmon, Team Name ''Ghost'', retired for service injuries, is not enjoying college life. But things are about to change, if not for the better. When he sees a kidnapping, a series of, at the time logical, decisions leave him shot to ribbons and battling a battalion of Syrian commandos with only the help of three naked co-eds who answer to the names ''Bambi,'' ''Thumper'' and ''Cotton Tail.'

'A fast-paced, highly-sexual, military-action thriller that ranges from a poison factory in the Mideast to the Florida Keys to Siberia, the novel will keep you guessing what twisted fate will bring next for the man once known as . . . Ghost. Keep an eye on him or . . . poof, he'll be gone.'

A shooting good time.

If you could sum up Ghost in three words, what would they be?

Fun in the sun. A dream ride for an ex soldier. The right guy in the wrong place to save one part of the world. Save the girls save the nation.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

Yes what is this guy going to do next. John Ringo know how to torture his lead character to keep the plot moving.

Which scene was your favorite?

I enjoyed him seeing the girl taken and his leaping into action. He took advantage of his available opportunities to save the day. The edge was close enough that it is exciting. What happens next is the question.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

When the girls are saved. That is the high point in the book for me.

Any additional comments?

Good read John Ringo delivers again. The narrator does a very good job. The voice varies and is not boring a all. The narration delivers dynamic action.

Non stop action

Action, travel and a gun toting alpha male. Heavy on the smut, but otherwise great!

a good combat story but watch for the BDSM

Would you listen to Ghost again? Why?

tis was a fairly straightforward combat story with a fairly linear story line but spiced with a great deal of sex.

Any additional comments?

The biggest risk of this series is the persistent story line featuring Sado masicism, bondage, torture and rape. This was a bit more than I was comfortable with and I certainly wouldn't play it in public without earphones.

Brutal rape

I enjoyed the first part of this book, then it turned into a 50 shades of gray thing, followed by more bad guy killings, then a brutal rape of a 15 yr old prostitute by the "good guy". It really turned me off of the book and probably won't be getting any more of the books in this series since I'm sure there will be more of the same. I did like the action, just the sex parts were too long and not needed to make it a book worth reading or listening to.

A broken and dark hero

The first book in this series is difficult to review. The idea of a hero who is far less than perfect has become its own genre and can be very interesting and entertaining. As I began reading I thought “Here is another less than perfect hero whose future exploits I will definitely enjoy!”. That is until the book became outright explicitly pornographic. In itself that's inconsequential but it added absolutely nothing to the story line. I have nothing against pornographic writing – as long as there is a reason! The 50 shades stories have pornography as the story line and that's fine. In Ghost the added pornography added nothing and made the hero seem so broken and dark that I almost didn't bother finishing... finding myself caring little what happened in the story or with the hero.
However I did finish the book and reluctantly began the second instalment in the series. Glad I did
In the second book the reluctant hero is someone we can root for and his dark side and sexual demons do add to the story line... all be it not in such a graphic manor.
You could almost skip book one, start with book two and not be very lost on the back story of how our hero found himself where he is.
If you choose to read this series be aware it is not for the puritanical minded!

If Ted Nugents brain was a book.

This book is insane. I only made ut through part 1. The US nukes Syria, gunfights with naked college girls, the protag captures every terrorist known to man. This is like if your schoolboy fantasies grew up into a terrible Mary Sue Navy Seal. And everyone turns into a conservative. The book is terrible, but its fun to read it if youre into absurdity.

Yep, this is John Ringo in full stride

Ghost, the first of the Paladin of Shadows series hits the ground running in classic John Ringo’s irreverent, sexist, and internationally politically incorrect style.

PLEASE NOTE: Part of the publisher's Summary is “A fast-paced, HIGHLY-SEXUAL, military-action thriller” pay attention!

I’m so glad Jeremy Arthur was chosen as the narrator the characterizations and pacing are spot on.
If you’ve enjoyed any of John Ringo’s work you will love the entire series.
If you’ve never had the pleasure of enjoying John Ringo’s work give Ghost a try, you’ll either love it or hate it.

The remaining books are a more focused plotline and not a collection of shorts or ideas.I have the series in print and am anxiously awaiting release of the rest of the series. 12/17/13

Ringo writes great tales- this one, not my favorit

Typical John Ringo yarn. Lots of cool military lingo and action packed adventure. The over the top fantasy sexcapades were silly and unnecessary. I wonder if Ringo has revealed his own sexual proclivities?
