This is a good and helpful set, saying a great deal about the ancient Near East in a short time. It is accessible to any interested individual, which is important as many do not often know where to begin learning about the whole biblical world. The only criticism I have is that there were several wrongly pronounced words. I realize and empethise with this difficulty as a seminary student, but there are far too many resources for such mistakes to happen quite so frequently, and as a blind student, this can often cause a great deal of confusion.

I cannot say if the content is accurate or not, I couldn’t get past the narration. The narrator is distracting and has a very poor cadence.

If you don't know, Gilgamesh was an ancient king who feared death, and went on a lengthy quest in which he sought immortality. Also, he kind of hung out with a bigfoot, aka wild man of the woods, while doing so. He never achieves his goal. The story has a lot of different lesson that can be gotten from the reading alone, but King adds a biblical (christian) perspective to it, and leads you into new areas of thought. I was kind of surprised at the mentions of UFOs, but that only made this more like the tv show Ancient Aliens. If you want to get a biblical POV on the Gilgamesh story then look no further, but be warned, this is not a retelling of the tale itself. You really should have read the story or at least familiarized yourself with it ahead of time. I doubt that anyone would be foolish enough to expect a rewrite of the story in a scholarly text, but you should know that it does references all over the place.

Clinger narrates cleanly and is easy to follow. You will not have any problems understanding a thing he says. Even though I did receive a promo code for this review it in no way influenced my considerations of the material, and in fact, inspired me to be more honest. In fact, getting a code generally makes me harsher as a reviewer as I am more often concerned what someone like Me will decide based on my review.

Gilgamesh, UFOS, and the Bible

I have never been so disappointed in a purchase from Audible. First off, this is a recording of two essays, and does not contain the actual story of Gilgamesh. Further, while it claims to be a Christian interpretation, it includes very simplistic theological reasoning, even to the point of one time resorting to discussing stories of alien sightings and the Biblical text.

Beyond the disappointing content, the narrator sounded like a computer-generated voice, with strange intonation and phrasing of at most three words and often less. I thought maybe they'd let the author narrate his own book, but was shocked to see that they'd actually hired someone who read that poorly.

The production values were also laughable. At the end, there was a warning to not take any medical advice from the recording which made zero sense, because medical advice was one of the few things the author didn't speculate wildly about (again, see the aliens!) At one point they say that they aren't responsible for anything that might happen as a result of "any person reading or following the information in this book." I would agree with the author and publisher that you are listening at your own risk and you'd be better off not listening, or if you do, apply anything you learned with care and further research and careful reading of the Bible and the actual Gilgamesh epic.

I think there might be a lot for Christians to glean from Gilgamesh, but stay away from this poor effort.
