About this listen

Maddox

I’m not a fan of Christmas. I’m happy to stay up in my mountain cabin and let the silly season pass me by. But when a friend asks for a favor, I can’t say no. Now I’m stuck in my cabin during a snowstorm, trapped with the most beautiful man I’ve ever met - who can’t wait to get away. He just might break my heart when he goes.

Ravi

I’m racing to get home for the birth of my goddaughter when mechanical troubles force my plane’s emergency landing. There are no beds at the inn due to a horrendous storm, but a friend says she knows a guy who won’t mind putting me up until the bad weather passes. Now I’m trapped with that man, and I must decide if I stay, hiding from the rest of the world, or go and face my past to earn a shot at my happily ever after.

This is a 72,000-word, hurt/comfort, lumberjack/nurse, grumpy/sunshine, forced-proximity MM romance novel with a moderate amount of angst.

This would be a lovely holiday romance even with cardboard characters, because of the clever use of so many wonderful tropes such as forced proximity in a snowstorm, the "Scrooge" at Christmas with the sunshine one, and hurt/comfort. However, Maddox and Ravi are far, far from cardboard characters. They leap off the page, helped by the great writing and the wonderful performance of Michael Dean. These two are carrying around years worth of hurts and their attraction combined with being snowed it together, gives them the push they need to open up and help each other. Their is lots of emotion in this one, but the ending is perfect.

Great holiday romance

I became a fan of this narrator in previous works. When you read the story it’s awesome add a voice and it’s a new level of wow.

My first impression of Maddox was 'Scrooge', but it quickly became apparent that it wasn't the case. He's very aware of his nasty attitude. Ravi is in a huge hurry to get to see his new goddaughter and yet very reluctant to actually go. Both men have secrets and enormous burdens of guilt they are carrying. It doesn't take long for their attraction to come to the forefront and Maddox opens up. I loved that Ravi was so willing to listen and encourage Maddox to get back to physio and counseling but he sure isn't willing to open up about his own baggage. Once he did it broke my heart. Maddox's grand gesture was impressive but it was just as impressive that he let Ravi set the pace as how things would continue. The ending is superb.

I love the way that Ravi and Maddox connect. Both have baggage and things they are dealing with. They both help the other start on the way for healing. There were moments in the story that I was worried that they were going to miss the mark with each other. I like how Maddox begins his own road to recovery and knowing when to back down. I was so glad to see these two find their way to a HEA.
I listened to the audio version and really enjoyed.

I would have given it 5 stars all the way , but I felt the narration (not the fault of the performance) was tweaked too much in post and left a halting and slightly irritating cadence . I think it would have been much better left more natural and not overly touched up !!!

I enjoyed this book very much

This isn’t my normal thing. I’m more into military sci-fi and fantasy. But I’m also lgbt. And this story was so touching. It does get pretty hot and heavy, and explicit starting around the middle. As long as that is ok with you, I think this is a wonderful story. The narrator did a great job voicing the characters!

Well written and narrated!

A snowstorm strands Ravi at Maddox's cabin. Despite the differences between them, they're instantly attracted. Their casual physical intimacy grows into more, helping them both deal with their serious emotional wounds.

If you like steamy, low-conflict, hurt-comfort romance, this book might be for you. It's darker than I expect for a holiday romance. To me it felt more sad than emotional. There's not much plot beyond the couple working through their past. Narrator Michael Dean is the best part of this book—he's brilliant as always.

Thanks, Gay Romance Reviews, for the ARC I received. This is my honest and voluntary review.
