About this listen

Poor Ginny Bloggs! She had inherited a fortune, a magnificent country estate, and her benefactor's disgruntled relatives, a quartet of querulous schemers horrified to find themselves at the mercy of a low, common girl, a total stranger - the coal merchant's daughter!

The handsome Lord Gerald de Fremney had pledged to keep the more unruly relatives in line. He thought he understood thoroughly modern women. Her reluctant guardians thought they understood society. Such was Ginny Bloggs - as delicate as a china doll, as bold as brass. She understood them all, and now she was going to teach them all what it meant to be a lady!

In this whirlwind series, Marion Chesney brings us spirited, independent women who are at once bewitching, beguiling, and determined to make their mark on the world, be it within their social circle or extending beyond. With their arms wide open, these women are absolutely original and unforgettable, as are the tales in which they are featured.

Wonderful love story. Narrator is super
detailed. Ginny is my favorite! Love M.C. Beaton!!! Can’t wait to read all of her novels!

My Favorite

Maybe the narration ruined the story. I have read many of Marion Chesney's books and liked them. The characters may have been likeable with more animated narration. Cannot figure the appeal or attraction between the main characters.

Unappealing characters and narrator

Storyline was not that interesting and I found the narrator to be … annoying in this book. I think I’ve heard other books she narrates but this one wasn’t a good one for me.

Narrator wasn’t my favorite

story started well and was extremely entertaining. By the middle of the story you will singing praises to the author for such a funny story. But by the end the laughter dies and you are left kinda confused because this main character is as confusing as ever and leaves you with too much question as to who the main character really is.

Hilarious!

The story overall, was good. The reading was torturous! Stilted and emphasized the wrong points.

Very stilted reading

If you can really call it narration- it’s like reading a script out loud for the first time, trying to figure out where things stop, start, question or change, Why are so many of MC’s books read by her? Only the included ones??? I really love the books if I could read them for myself I would, this voice is a double first cousin to nails on chalkboard ruins any chance of enjoyment

Worse narration by a woman on Audible ( so far)

This is my first review!!! Hilarious book!! I have not laughed this much listening to a book. It is suspenseful as well. I would listen to it again.

This narrator has strange emPHases in her reading and it is difficult to listen to at times. Her exacting pronunciation of certain words make it feel like she’s reading the words and not the story. The story itself is ok, but both main characters are infuriating and I don’t think the author was very invested in either character since you almost don’t care what happens to anyone.

Usually enjoy this author, but this isn’t the best.

this one was much better than polly. Charlotte anne dore was good in this one. the story was hilarious, and i laughed out loud. i loved how Ginny was calm, cool, and collected and always got the better of those who were out to get her. i took 1 star off because lord gerald was the pits. why does mc beaton always make her male leads so unattractive? why can't they be admirable men? instead they are always ill tempered and sometimes rapists. Ginny would have been better off with someone else.

much better

This story is much more interesting than Polly was. It's fun and a bit of a mystery watching how Ginny outwits the dimwits. It does devolve to typical romance drivel in spots, and Lord Gerald's personality has some unappealing moments. But it's unique enough to stick with. The narrator is also slightly more relaxed in this one. Still quirky, but better.

Better than Polly
