About this listen

It’s goalie vs. goalie in this brand-new enemies-to-lovers hockey romance from Avon Gale and Piper Vaughn....

Ryu Mori has had a stellar season as goalie for the Atlanta Venom. So when he’s called into management’s office, he’s expecting to hear he’s the new starting goalie for the team, not that some new guy - an incredibly hot, annoyingly bratty rookie - is here to compete for his spot.

Not everyone gets to play in the best league in the world. Emmitt Armstrong knows that, and he’s not about to waste the opportunity after grinding his way from the bottom to the top. If the Venom are looking for a meek, mild-mannered pushover, they’ve got the wrong guy.

Ryu doesn’t want to admit the other goalie’s smart mouth turns him on. Beating Armstrong at practice feels good, sure, but there are other more fun ways to shut his rival up.

In this league, it’s winner takes all. But there’s more to life than winning, and if Emmitt and Ryu can get past their egos and competitive natures, they might just discover they work better as partners than they ever imagined possible.

One-click with confidence. This title is part of the Carina Press Romance Promise: all the romance you’re looking for with an HEA/HFN. It’s a promise!

Left me cheering

This is great start to finish. This starts with the two main characters, having a snarky, resentful beginning and develops into of love story. It was great, to to see how they handled their personal lives together with the pressures of their profession that could have easily torn them apart.

Love Ryu

I typically don't gravitate to enemies to lovers but this was done very well. Just enough angst to keep it from being boring. And not too much hate, so you end up siding with one character. Amri and Ryu are the cutest.

great series!

This is a fun series! If you’ve read and enjoyed book one you’ll absolutely love this one! We get to see the MCs from book one and the entire team again. Ryu is stoic and controlled he absolutely does NOT know what to do with the tempestuous Emmitt, aka Army.
The strike sparks off one another right away and that predominates their relationship. I was glad to see more humor in this and a fair bit of hockey to keep me satisfied until hockey season starts up again!

The emotions come, though they are a little overwhelmed by the smexy times and the angry sex. It was nice seeing the relationship between Tristan and Sebastian from a distance – it made them feel more complete than they had by the end of their story.

This is recommended to fans of hockey, angry sex, the authors and bratty goalies!

Audio

Kirt does a good job giving all the many characters a voice. I wanted Ryu to have more of an accent than he did but Kirt handles the foreign words and his parents’ accents well. Sometimes his narration is a bit stilted and the story always sounds a bit melodramatic. However, this is a great way to enjoy this story and I recommend it!

I love this series

Even though we see Sebastian & Tristan from the first book, you can read this as a stand-a-lone. Ryu is an NHL goalie who is now ready to be the starter on the Atlanta Venom, he has earned it. Emmitt has been called up from the minors after having an amazing season. Ryu thinks that he is an automatic shoe-in as a starter, the coaches have other ideas. They are going to have to compete for the position. But what ends up happening is that they kind of tag team the position. Initially I did not like Emmitt at all. He was way to cocky for me. I know that athletes have large egos but he was a little to much. Real quick I have to say, I LOVE MORLEY! I hope he gets his own book as he needs to settle down. Anyway, we see these two battle for not only the Stanley Cup, but the starting position. They are also battling their attraction to each other, well Ryu more so as Emmitt is basically a man-whore. He is also bisexual & lets the team know in solidarity with Tristan. This makes Ryu guilty as he has not come out as gay & feels that he should have been the one to stand with Tristan. I really enjoyed the enemies to lovers here, as it wasn't overly done, as well as reading about the game itself as I love hockey. I'm glad that Emmitt's dad came around in the end as he has always given Emmitt the impression that he is disappointed in that he didn't go the football route. Also Ryu's parents come around as well showing their support finally for their son. I don't like that they are not out as a couple especially to the team.

Entertaining story

This was an enjoyable story. It had the competitive edge to it as our two guys are competing for the same position, lead goalie. Things take a turn for the better as they are playing in tandem and switching in and out. I enjoyed the banter in this story and watching these two build a relationship and dealing with wanting the same position and learning to try and be the best they were while also supporting and wishing for the best for the other. Things start off as a no strings attached, blow off some tension sex but as they get to know each other and get past the walls they both have up, that starts to change. It takes a little bit for them to have that conversation but it was cute when they did. This story had a nice blend of relationship and hockey and was entertaining.
The narrator did an okay job with the story, didn't detract from it but didn't seem to add a whole bunch to it for me either.
