Publisher's summary

“Whether making my heart melt or my head burst into flames, Annabeth Albert draws the reader in and keeps them captivated.” (Gay Book Reviews)

The sexy Navy chief and his best friend’s adorkable little brother....

It’s petty, but Naval Chief Derrick Fox wishes he could exact a little revenge on his ex by showing off a rebound fling. His submarine is due to return to its Bremerton, Washington, home base soon and Derrick knows all too well there won't be anyone waiting with a big, showy welcome.

Enter one ill-advised plan....

Arthur Euler is the guy you go to in a pinch - he's excellent at out-of-the-box solutions. It's what the genius music-slash-computer nerd is known for. So when he finds out Derrick needs a favor, he’s happy to help. He can muster the sort of welcome a Naval Chief deserves, no problem at all.

Except it is a problem. A very big problem.

When Arthur’s homecoming welcome is a little too convincing, when a video of their gangplank smooch goes enormously viral, they're caught between a dock and a hard place. Neither of them ever expected a temporary fake relationship to look - or feel - so real. And Arthur certainly never considered he'd be fighting for a very much not-fake forever with a military man.

Carina Adores is home to romantic love stories where LGBTQ+ characters find their happily-ever-afters.

Cute

Cute love story where both people learn to accept themselves as well as each other. Everyone wins.

Boudreaux AND Leslie!

Greg Boudreaux and Joel Leslie are two of my absolute favorites, so I was thrilled to see them teaming up, and they both did the bang-up job they’re famous for. However, there is one disappointing thing. Rather than doing a duet reading with each of them taking a role and sticking with it through the entire book, they alternate chapters, each doing all the voices for their chapters. It kills the flow of what could have been an amazing performance. Oh well. I wait in hope for the book Leslie and Boudreaux really do together!

SLOW START... BUT PICKS UP STEAM

The story starts out slowly, but picks up steam as the plot line progresses. Loveable characters and an HEA ending. Narrators did a great job contrasting the two main characters. Enjoyed the supporting cast of family members.

narration of Arthur sucks

good story line. I should've just read the book instead of listening to it. the narration of Arthur was awful and spoiled the book for me.

Enjoyable

Very cute lighthearted story. One of my favorite things is the fake to real. Derrick and Arthur’s story is full of fun, love and a big family that likes to interfere. Greg Boudreaux and Joel Leslie do a great job bringing Annabeth’s story to life.

Heartwarming

I’ve been wanting to get to this book for so long. It was worth the wait. Trademark Annabeth. Warm, sweet, funny and with terrific chemistry. Set in what seems to be one of her favourite worlds, military men.

This was a cute play on the fake boyfriend trope. With a bit of best friends brother and opposites attract.

Derrick’s best friend, Calder, arranges for his brother, Arthur, to pretend a welcome home kiss to upstage his ex-boyfriend. From that first kiss, these two find themselves drawn to each other, and now that they are faking being boyfriends they have the time to explore that attraction.

Arthur, a musically gifted, slightly nerdy guy who can get easily lost in his own mind vs the organised, logical military man. They make a great pairing. Arthur has never really felt like he fit in with his service-oriented family and sometimes only saw the sacrifice side of the life. Falling for Derrick gives him another perspective, and along with falling in love with him, he also finds a renewed sense of belonging. While Arthur gifts Derrick a home he’s always been longing for.

It was a great pairing, with a really wonderful story, brought to life by narrators Greg Boudreaux and Joel Leslie who both did a really wonderful job.
