Publisher's summary
Hallelujah! The Sweet Potato Queens are back!
In 1999, Jill Conner Browne, royal boss of Jackson, Mississippi's own glorious Sweet Potato Queens, introduced them to the world in the hilarious best seller The Sweet Potato Queen's Book of Love (which contained everything you ever need to know about love, life, men, marriage, and the importance of being prepared). But, fortunately for us, that was not the final chapter in the Queens' splendid saga. The Sweet Potato Queens still have plenty of stuff to say and valuable wisdom to impart about how they went from being Cute Girls to Fabulous Women, including:
- Dating for the Advanced, or Advancing
- The Joys of Marriage - if you must
- More Delicious, Death-Defying Recipes
- The Promise for Men - six little words that will make any woman swoon
- Lolling About - the official activity of the Sweet Potato Queens
And, of course,
- The All-True Story of the Two Most Wonderful Men in the World
Not to mention:
- Reader Mail - honoring the adventures of brand-new Wannabes and Honorary Queens from around the world
If you haven't met the Sweet Potato Queens yet, this is the introduction you've been waiting for. If you already know the joys of Queendom, this is your official welcome-back party.

Cyril Avery is not a real Avery - or at least that's what his adoptive parents tell him. And he never will be. But if he isn't a real Avery, then who is he? Born out of wedlock to a teenage girl cast out from her rural Irish community and adopted by a well-to-do if eccentric Dublin couple via the intervention of a hunchbacked Redemptorist nun, Cyril is adrift in the world, anchored only tenuously by his heartfelt friendship with the infinitely more glamourous and dangerous Julian Woodbead.

Meet Ove. He’s a curmudgeon—the kind of man who points at people he dislikes as if they were burglars caught outside his bedroom window. He has staunch principles, strict routines, and a short fuse. But behind the cranky exterior there is a story and a sadness. So when one November morning a chatty young couple with two chatty young daughters move in next door and accidentally flatten Ove’s mailbox, it is the lead-in to a comical and heartwarming tale of unkempt cats, unexpected friendship, and the ancient art of backing up a U-Haul.

Hi! I’m Seth! I was asked to describe my audiobook, Yearbook for websites and shit like that, so...here it goes!!! Yearbook is a collection of true stories that I desperately hope are just funny at worst, and life-changingly amazing at best. (I understand that it’s likely the former, which is a fancy “book” way of saying “the first one.”) I talk about my grandparents, doing stand-up comedy as a teenager, bar mitzvahs, and Jewish summer camp, and tell way more stories about doing drugs than my mother would like.

Story
Clinton Kelly is probably best known for teaching women how to make their butts look smaller. But in I Hate Everyone, Except You, he reveals some heretofore unknown secrets about himself, like that he's a finicky connoisseur of 1980s pornography, a disillusioned critic of New Jersey's premier water parks, and perhaps the world's least enthused high school commencement speaker.

It's a report tempered by hard times. In "Matricide", Daum unflinchingly describes a parent's death and the uncomfortable emotions it provokes; and in "Diary of a Coma" she relates her own journey to the twilight of the mind. But Daum also operates in a comic register. With perfect precision, she reveals the absurdities of the marriage-industrial complex, of the New Age dating market, and of the peculiar habits of the young and digital.

Tee's evolution after her sudden and unexpected outplacement, is loosely based on the stages of grief - denial, anger, bargaining, depression, acceptance, relinquishing, readjusting, and reinvesting. For Tee, losing her job is like a death, but with time, and some bumps, bruises and a new attitude, she comes out on the other side, having reassessed what's important in her life.

If there is one thing Lincee Ray has learned over the years, it's that the majority of women on the planet struggle with insecurities. Our skinny jeans mock us. Our just-trying-to-help mothers are just driving us crazy. Our social media feeds taunt us with everyone else's picture-perfect lives. It's enough to send you on a gummy-bear bender while binge-watching Friends reruns and not showering for a week. Lincee knows. She's been there. Right there, in fact. Gummy bears and all.

"You'll change your mind." That's what everyone says to Jen Kirkman - and countless women like her - when she confesses she doesn't plan to have children. But you know what? It's hard enough to be an adult. You have to dress yourself and pay bills and remember to buy birthday gifts. You have to drive and get annual physicals and tip for good service. Some adults take on the added burden of caring for a tiny human being with no language skills or bladder control.

Honest, warm-hearted and of course, funny
After reading (and loving) "The Sweet Potato Queens' Book of Love", I was thrilled that my (now, at least in my mind) dear friend Jill again picked up her pen. Her books are funny, touching and insightful, and has a way of really "hitting home". I laughed and I cried. Hey, if for no other reason, buy the darned thing to hear the chapter about Chimney Swifts.

Best of the Best
Funny, bawdy, memorable. This is my favorite book. I quote from it regularly and have had 100% success with the "promise". I wouldn't offer this to my mohter-in-law but I did share it with my daughter. She loved it too!

A wonderful book
This is soooo good! I laughed out loud so many times. I almost had to pull my car over at one point, because I was laughing so hard, I could barely see to drive. The end, about the two most wonderful men in the world, is so real and deep that I was crying, but it was not a bad feeling. Jill Conner Browne is marvelous at putting feelings into words. I wish Audible had all of her books on tape.

poor recording quality
I have heard Jill Conner Browne person and have purchased two other of her works from Audible so I am familiar with her speaking voice and style. The recording quality of this is very poor; it sounds as though the recording has been sped up a little making her voice sound very machine gun like rapid with a strange echo or reverb in the background as a result. Great book, funny stories, but the recording quality is very hard to listen to. I did not think the entire recording would be like this after listening to the sample so I purchased it anyway and feel as if I have wasted a credti.

The Best of the Bunch
Of all 3 Sweet Potato Queen books, this is by far the best. All the laughs are there, but the end is tempered with a sweetness that requires kleenex.

A Positive Outlook on All Things
Jill Conner Browne is a fantastic narrator and a wonderful story teller; this book, as with most of the Sweet Potato Queen’s books includes a lot of fun stories some about her or from friends and fans. Browne has the perfect recipe for these books, it starts off with a lot of funny short stories, with some advice thrown in, of course, then there is a sad/tear-jerker story somewhere in the middle, and then she wraps it up with some recipes which sound to die for.
Prepare to fantasize about delicious treats and cocktails while laughing your ass off. If you’re ever in need of a pick-me-up, the Queen will make you feel good.
