About this listen

No one told him he had a son.

Actor Dylan Conner is furious. Not only has he been left out of his child’s life, the baby boy has been given another man’s last name. Determined to be a better father than the sorry guy who’d left him and his mother, Dylan fights to ensure a significant place in his son’s life. Unfortunately, his bad-boy reputation overshadows his good intentions. Only one woman in this small town sees beyond his Hollywood image. And he’s falling for her. Too bad she’s the custody mediator.

After her scandalous divorce in the small town of Oxford, Mississippi, attorney Cassie Brooks has no intentions of practicing law again. The humiliating experience left a bitter taste for love, marriage, and her profession.

Now friends need Cassie’s help in a custody negotiation, and her role demands she remain objective. She never expected to be drawn to Dylan Conner - the actor who everyone warns is bad news. Not only is the mediation at stake, but so is her heart.

Inspirational!

Going Up South by Janet Ferguson
This is my first book by this author and the second one in a series. I didn’t read number one before it, even though this is a series, which is unusual for me. I didn’t have a hard time reading this one first and was not lost by reading it first. I really enjoyed the audio. The narrator was excellent and the story was engaging. There were twist and turns that made you want to keep reading. Each character had their own problems just like in real life and had to work through them like we all do. A powerful love story with a theme of forgiveness that you will enjoy if you like inspirational romance fiction.
I won this Audible audio book from Janet Ferguson in a contest I entered on a blog by the name of Britt Reads Fiction. I was not required to write a review. All opinions expressed are my own.

Couldn't Get Enough of This Book!

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes, I would definitely recommend this story. The characters are great and it is a plot that kept me listening and listening. And when I wasn't listening, I was thinking about the story and all that was going on in the lives of these people.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Dylan was my favorite character. He had a lot of growing up to do and I appreciated the way he changed in this story. I also liked knowing the back story.

Which scene was your favorite?

The water sprinkler scene and just after it, as well.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Yep, the water sprinkler scene. I could really feel Cassie's emotions all through that scene.

Any additional comments?

The story and narration are really enjoyable. I am loving this series.

Eye-opening- Not afraid to touch the hard stuff

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes. The author is not afraid to touch on the hard issues or what scares people when it comes to Christian fiction - when there is a strong emphasis on Christianity and faith. Yet, it was done so tastefully, and without bias, it presented Christians in a realistic light. That light being we are ALL flawed, despite being Christians, and we ALL make mistakes. It is with faith and trust in our Lord that hope exists.

Which character – as performed by Naomi Karez – was your favorite?

Both Cassie and Dylan were strong, but I'd have to say Cassie since her thoughts and emotions were brought to the forefront.

Any additional comments?

As to the audio version, I particularly like the narrator's portrayal and felt that it brought Cassie to life. It also gave readers/listeners a personal connection to the characters, particularly Cassie and Dylan with the emotions we can hear, and in turn feel. It was definitely done well, including all those real-life awkward moments, and makes me want to continue this series in audio format rather than reading!

In all, Going Up South will make you want to meet the whole gang in Oxford. With themes of forgiveness, truth and finding a path, I think it makes for one very eye-opening read (or listen).

Entertaining and heartfelt

Going Up South is another excellent narration by Naomi Karez, complementing the heartfelt story penned by Janet W. Ferguson. Complex characterisation and authentic storytelling mark this layered tale of Dylan Connors and Cassie Brooks, first introduced in Leaving Oxford. Gripping and emotional, this story captivated my attention from beginning to end as Dylan and Cassie negotiate their complicated lives with a slowly evolving attraction. Faith matters are woven into the tale in a sensitive and genuine way, without being overbearing. Karez once again narrates beautifully, both male and female characters, making the listening experience smooth and emotive. I so appreciate that Ferguson does not shy away from the cost of poor decision making and a self-focused lifestyle, while infusing the story with God's grace and forgiveness. Her characters of faith show weaknesses and unkind attitudes from time to time, lending even more authenticity to this powerful novel. Highly recommended.

Great Clean Love Story

I love this type of clean sweet romance novel.. Janet Ferguson has given us beautiful solid story-telling. one of the main characters Dylan Connor is a big flirt and thought to be a bad boy, he has Hollywood good looks without the arrogance and attitude. You will learn that Dylan has a heart of gold and he will melt yours. When he finds out that he is a father, due to a one night stand, he surprises Everyone by wanting to be a part of his son's life. He shows another side of his personality that wasn't expected. Ms Ferguson is a master of Community Development. There are several characters in this story, family, friends, and a few crazies. She introduces us to Christians that we can relate to. They don't live a perfect life, some have a past and many have problems. Yet through forgiveness, acceptance, and their faith the characters can be an inspiration to us all. I enjoyed this book and would recommend it to others. I was able to listen to the audio version and found it most enjoyable.

Story about Second Chances

This book takes off pretty much where book 1 ended. I liked that. It was like visiting old friends.

This story focuses on Nick/Jill and Dillon/Cassie. Again, I enjoyed the way the author offers the message of Jesus Christ. It's not pushy, but not watered-down. I loved seeing how Dillon comes into being comfortable with himself and his life choices. Again, great setup for future books. I look forward to book 3.

Narrator Naomi Karez's performance is consistent. Beautiful clarity and pacing. Just a little flat at times with emotions and humor, but not enough to discourage the listener. Her accents are subtle and do not take away from the 'Southerness' depicted by some characters. It was a great listen.

I received a complimentary copy from the author. My review is voluntary and honest.
