Publisher's summary

One of the world's most respected leaders, former IBM CEO Ginni Rometty overcame childhood and financial struggles to embark on a groundbreaking career that took her from entry-level engineer to eight years as the first woman CEO of an iconic global company.

Forty years in business and public advocacy taught Rometty the transformative power of leadership that blends authenticity, relationships, and curiosity with vision, rigor, and conviction. In her personable yet direct voice, Rometty reveals experiences that taught her how to orchestrate change for clients, companies, and communities. Her lessons and stories offer a blueprint for how we can all drive meaningful change in positive ways—a concept she calls "good power."

The book begins with raw, vivid memories from Rometty's youth and early professional life as she reflects on the trauma and role models that influenced how she later thought about good power. Rometty then shares how she strived to use good power during her career and as a transformative CEO. Five principles—be in service of many stakeholders, build belief among skeptics, make tough choices, champion tech ethics and inclusion, be resilient—show how to navigate tension and build trust on the path to real change. She also shows how good power can scale to address urgent societal issues, even in our polarizing times.

Dear Listener,

What inspired me to want to tell my story?
"I wanted to tell my story in a way that could bring value to my listeners. A lot of people want to make change for the better, whether it’s for themselves, their organizations, or for our world. So I reflected back on everything I’ve learned from my mentors and through my own experiences, in search of timeless themes that others might apply to their own careers, companies, and communities. In that sense, Good Power strives to be in service of you and of the people in your life and work. My biggest hope for this listen is that people come away believing that how we achieve a goal—with respect, for example, and by embracing opposing viewpoints—is as important as the achievement itself. I truly hope it delivers." - Ginni Rommety, writer of Good Power

Discovering many new worlds

listening to this book, I am discovering g that many large US companies are adopting skills first hiring. For someone finding my way in the US workforce this is extremely encouraging and I am happy to have joined one of the companies mentioned here.
This book delivers a blueprint for structuring what we already instinctively know to be good stewardship of our society, articulating that instinct and applying it to business. Ginni reminds us that our individual values are the basis of good stewardship, and isn't that what we are on this earth to provide?

Good Power showcases a strategy to address the Digital Divide

This is an inspiring work that highlights the personal, professional and stewardship journeys of IBM’s ninth, and first female CEO, Ginni Rometty. Her resilience, one of the five “Good Powers,” is highlighted as a driving force in overcoming personal adversity. Likewise, curiosity and continuous learning. Ms. Rometty emphasizes being “in service” of self, colleagues, customers and world leaders, and using integrity and values to manage at every level of influence and through extraordinary business challenges and world events. She share how all of these inspired her work to create opportunity for individuals with limited access to higher education to acquire skills in Technology that would yield a better economic future. Her passion and drive is inspiring.

Mostly Good

To much emphasis on the word "I".
The first three quarters are good. After switches to preaching and bragging
