About this listen

This program was previously published as Minority Leader. This updated edition includes a new preface written and read by Stacey Abrams.

"Abrams's own grit, coupled with her descriptions of much stumbling and self-doubt, will make [Lead from the Outside] touch you in a way few books by politicians can." (The New York Times)

National leader Stacey Abrams has written the guide to harnessing the strengths of being an outsider and succeeding anyway.

Leadership is hard. Convincing others - and yourself - that you are capable of taking charge and achieving more requires insight and courage. Lead from the Outside is the handbook for outsiders, written with an eye toward the challenges that hinder women, people of color, the working class, members of the LGBTQ community, and millennials ready to make change.

Stacey uses her hard-won insights to break down how ambition, fear, money, and failure function in leadership, and she includes practical exercises to help you realize your own ambition and hone your skills. Lead from the Outside discusses candidly what Stacey has learned over the course of her impressive career in politics, business, and the nonprofit world: that differences in race, gender, and class provide vital strength, which we can employ to rise to the top and create real and lasting change.

Shorter audiobooks are also great for commutes and for doing tasks around the house because you can get lost in a listen without getting left on a cliffhanger. If you're looking for your next listen, we've rounded up some of the best audiobooks under eight hours across different genres.

Definitely worth reading. We all have strengths and abilities that are meant to fulfill a purpose in this life. For various reasons most of us never get a chance to do what we were meant to do. In this book, Stacy Abrams not only touches on overcoming outside barriers to our goals but also those fears and obstacles that we have within our hearts and minds (which are often remnants of lies we've been told on who we are and where our place is). It helps us re-examine how we can reach the goals we always thought were unattainable. She gives good examples and practical exercises that can help us move one step closer to reaching our objectives. Thank you Stacy Abrams for writing this book. Your words and insights are powerful and will help us become our best selves and fulfill our purpose in life.

Looking forward to much more from her. Ending poverty is a mighty task, and having come from it also a deep abyss of heavy feet stomping one down.

Stacey Abrams has written a motivating and cheerful book about knowing where each of us is in society, which for so in America many involves entitlement. This entitlement we can use to help ourselves and others in profound ways. She is a community organizer in the best tradition. This book is easy to listen to, and it’s hard to interrupt the recording for a break, since it flows so smoothly.

This book spoke to the very essence of my experience as a minority leader (Nursing Administration). It is clear, my challenges are entrenched in the hue of my skin. However, in the words of Stacey Abrams, “I will let my haters be my motivators!” Thanks Stacey for bringing on home for me. You are my Shero. I look forward to being your boots on the ground and voting for you in 2028!

This book touched on all issues us Black professionals face in the workplace. It gave insight, direction and worksheets to complete.

Loves it. So much pallatable truth in her call to action and her annointed words of wisdom.

Flipping the game on it's proverbial head.

this is not your traditional leadership book but is perfect for everyone regardless to where you are on the development scale. I would highly recommend it for those young people graduating from both high school and college. I would also recommend it for the professional trying to move ahead. there are so many takeaways in this book.
