About this listen

A response to all those grandmother books with flowers and puppies on the cover, Grandma Rules is a book for the hip, baby boomer grandma who realizes that after all the work she put into her own kids, she can take a break and have fun with her grandkids. A perfect gift for the greatest grandmothers you know, this book is laugh-out-loud funny while offering useful insights and tips on how to embrace the world’s greatest job.

Editorial reviews

Author Jill Milligan writes with humor and sympathy about grandmothers of the baby boom generation in Grandma Rules: Notes on Grandmotherhood, the World's Best Job. These women break the stereotype of the naïve and prim grandmothers of yesteryear. The modern grandmother is aware of mainstream culture to a good degree, and can relate to her children and grandchildren in realistic ways. One thing remains the same: to be a grandmother is to shake off the burden of parenting and just enjoy the fun of interacting with the young. Milligan’s apt descriptions of mother-daughter and husband-wife relationships are especially entertaining. Pam Ward’s wry narration captures Milligan’s voice well.

Meh...

Struggled with this from the beginning. The narrator sounds like she's an old time radio DJ with a fake voice.
