Publisher's summary

Graveyard Druid, a new adult urban fantasy novel from M.D. Massey

When the local vampire coven hires him to stop an undead outbreak at the city graveyard, it sounds like money in the bank to everyone's favorite down on his luck druid, Colin McCool. But when you're cursed by an ancient fae sorceress with a score to settle, nothing is ever as it seems...

Colin McCool here, otherwise known as the Junkyard Druid. Not my favorite title, but since it's my only title I guess I'm stuck with it.

But hey, things are looking up. Sure, a powerful and sentient magical artifact may have taken up residence inside my skull, and I'm still burdened with a nasty curse cast by an ancient sorceress of the Tuatha Dé Danann...

...but I'm trying really hard to look on the bright side of things.

Seeing as how I've been dragged back into the world of the fae, I figure I may as well be of use. And if I can make a little scratch while using my druidic talents for good and not evil, so much the better.

Which is why I took this job working for Austin's vampire coven, cleaning up a ghoul infestation at the city cemetery. It's not their work and they don't want the heat, so they hired me to take care of it before it gets out of hand.

Easiest. Job. Ever. I'll just whack a few ghouls, hide the bodies, and collect my fee.

I mean, seriously - what could possibly go wrong?

Great book!

These books aren't quite as good as The Iron Druid Chronicles, but they still rock! I'm glad I found it later on, because I'm going to jump straight into the next book instead of having to wait!

Early snapshot of a developing writer

Sorry to assess in this manner : The writing is lack luster and the never ending "woe is me", of the protagonist is wearing. Reach further Mr. MASSEY; we will be watching.

Easy Escapist Read

I like this author when I want to read something light. Massey provides a good mix of action and suspense in his supernatural world. Sure, most of his books are interchangeable, but I really enjoy them for a change of pace. Characters are nicely drawn and narration is good to great.

Mediocre

This is the 2nd in the series I've read so far. I haven't been too impressed. Urban fantasy is normally a genre I enjoy. The Dresden Files and The Iron Druid Chronicles are some of my favorites. The Junkyard Druid is heavy handed where they are subtle and the pop culture / nerdom references feel forced. I have a hard time liking the protagonist and the women in the story seem too flat and sexualized. without their sex/romance subplots, two of the characters would be next to pointless. They lack independence and depth. I do appreciate the deep dives into Celtic mythology, often missed or glazed over in other stories. I plan in giving the 3rd book a try. I hope the series improves. otherwise I think I may leave it be.
