Publisher's summary

1402 A.D. - Eighteen years ago, Sir Richmond le Bec, a knight in the service of Henry of Bolingbroke, was tasked with a mission of great importance. Young Henry had an affair with a married woman who bore him a child, and the woman's husband vowed to kill both his wife and the child she birthed. Richmond was charged with taking the baby to safety and acting as her protector. Even though Richmond has risen to become Henry's greatest knight, the protection of his illegitimate daughter has been his most important task. For eighteen years he has watched over the girl, ensuring her health and safety, as she is raised by another family, unaware of her true identity.

The Lady Arissa de Lohr has always loved Sir Richmond, the man who she believes is only a family friend. The powerful, handsome knight has always been in her heart and on the day of her eighteenth birthday, she can no longer keep her feelings to herself. Although she has been pledged to Whitby Abbey since infancy and knows that, upon reaching maturity, she will be delivered to the abbey as a novice nun, she has no desire to be sequestered away from Richmond. She loves the man, and she will have him.

Richmond, too, is deeply in love with the young lady he was assigned to protect. As she became a woman, his feelings turned from friendly concern to romantic admirer. Confessing their feelings to each other is only the beginning of their adventure, for dark forces are at work against both Arissa and Richmond, threatening to tear the lovers apart.

King Henry goes to battle against Owen Glendower, who has been made aware of the king's secret illegitimate daughter and seeks to claim the girl to use against her father. Richmond is caught in the middle, protecting Arissa from the Welsh Rebels even as he fights Henry to keep her from being committing to Whitby.

Intrigue, battles, life, death and love blend in the greatest story yet of true love and the lengths Richmond will go to in order to have his beloved Arissa. He is more than willing to risk his life for the her in this epic tale of ultimate romance.

A love story for the ages

The story begins with many loose ends for the characters. Skillfully they are woven together. The threads gets knots and tangles but, in the end a beautiful tapestry of love has been woven.

it was okay...

Narrator was great and brought the story to life, but there was not enough substance. I skipped forward at times to avoid excessive talk that, in my opinion, didn't add anything to the story, Curiosity and the narrator kept me going.

Great Protector

How many ways can I tell you that Kathryn Le Veque is a Master writer? ALL of her books are phenomenal, including the contemporary ones. This is yet a 5 Star book, as well as a 5 Star performance by Michael Troughton. Hated to see/hear this one end. 💗

I think this one is my favorite

I really enjoyed this book. I hated how she ended it so fast. this is one she could have continued another hour or another book. like the Wolfe. I'm sure I'll be listening to it again in the future. it's that sweet and romantic.

Awesome!!

Wonderful May/December romance. You just can't go wrong with a book from Kathryn le Veque. All the feels you'll ever need in a story to keep you enthralled to the very end. Brian J. Gill was superb as usual.

Love the book. However....

Audible is not working correctly. It skips numerous sections. Contacted support but none of their suggestions has corrected the issue.

Great story and narration

But the ending was abrupt and left me thinking Ms Veque ran out of time or words. Too bad as the story was engaging.

A love story, and so, so much more!

Eighteen years of protection, developing into a great love for his young charge. A love that, when tested, saw the Mightest Knight of England, betray his country, to ensure her freedom. However, being the greatest tactician England had ever known, saw that the ending was not what the Welsh forces had envisaged, having the tables turned during the final battle.

Lovely Story

I have read this book many times as its one of my favorites. Since I’ve read it numerous times, when I was upset that a significant scene in chapter 9 was omitted. A very tender scene that sets the story on the next leg of its journey. I went to the book and read the scene then continued the audio version. I still enjoyed the book tremendously… Bart is hilarious!

Amazing!

Any additional comments?

Okay, so I've never really gotten into audiobooks before. Mostly because I've always been able to find enough books to occupy me and I never really thought I'd enjoy them. But I was shocked to realize that I actually loved them. They make things much simpler when you're busy to read a book and the narrator can really bring the book to life.

I did enjoy the sweet romance between Richmond and Arissa while it could also get hot. But the one thing that threw me off whenever it was mentioned was the age difference. That was the one thing that sort of took away from their rather sweet romance when it was actually mentioned.

It sort of approached different conflicts before backing away a bit. But it also meant that there were several conflicts going on at once. One external, the other more so internal. Overall, it kept my attention and made things easy to follow.

You honestly felt the character's pain and joy throughout the book. Partly from the narrator but also through the words that he was reading.

I enjoyed this audiobook and I'll definitely have to try some more audiobooks in the future.
