Publisher's summary

1200 A.D.—After decades of warring between the Lairds of Kerr and Prudhoe Castle in Northumbria, a tentative peace is reached. The Lady Carington Kerr is sent to Prudhoe as a hostage to ensure her father's good behavior, and a more reluctant hostage there never was.

Small and dark, with emerald eyes and a luscious figure, she is as gorgeous as she is fiery. Enter Sir Creed de Reyne; a gentle giant of a man, he is, by nature, calm and wise. He is the ice to Carington's fire. As Carington resists the attempts to keep her in her English prison, Creed is placed in charge of the captive as both jailer and protector.

Suffering through tragedy and triumph, Creed and Carington have a love that only strengthens with each passing moment. Even when Creed is forced to flee for his life and leave Carington behind, their only thoughts are of being together again.

Creed and Carington must fight for their very survival as two countries and a kingdom seek to separate them.

Contains mature themes.

Creed..what a guy..

Love Le Veque. Creed and Carington---a wonderful medieval romance full of pageantry and romance. Beautifully wrought and the narration was superb!

I liked the gentle giant idea

lady Carington was a spoiled, selfish immature brat. She is not my idea of a decent or interesting character, I disliked her for 90% of this book.

Reissued Book

I love KLV's books, but I have listened to this book before and almost positive I submitted a review. It's not right to present it as if it was the first time being offered in Audible. Now any new book released of hers in Audible, I am going double check to see if I listened to it before prior to purchasing it. Brad Wills narrated this book the first time around and it was much better.

Heard this one before.

I don’t know if this is a republished book or not, but I’ve definitely heard this one before. It’s good, but I was expecting something new.

Not a New AudioBook!

I already listened to this Audiobook, performed by Brad Wills. Out of all audiobooks re-recorded I’m surprised this one of them, since Brad Wills version is excellent, where Anthony Ferguson sounds good with character performances but his narration of the story sounds like a British Stoner/Surfer. That’s the only description I can think of (you got to hear it for yourself).
If any of Kathryn LeVeque’s books are re-recorded I wish it was ‘ALL’ the audiobooks performed by Daniel Dorse & The Whispering Knight. Those are the only audiobooks I can not repeat listening to, since it was a challenge to listen to, hear and/or understand the first time.
Still ‘Creed’ is one of my favorite of LeVeques’ story characters & I would recommend listening to it which ever narrator you get.

Re-Release

How about doing a “do-over” on all Daniel Dorse recordings???
This was totally a rip off and unnecessary to do this to your fans. Same damn storyline. I’m feeling some kind of way about this Ms. LeVeque!!

The narration makes a difference!

I've said this before and I'll say it again, the narration or narrator makes a huge difference in how you like or dislike a story. This one is a perfect example. I had the original audible done by Brad Wills and had forgotten I had a copy. Got this updated version thinking it was a new book and remembered the story. After this listen I gave a 2-star rating for the performance. Why? He does an okay job with reading but I never felt like he connected with what he was reading. That's what narration is about right? You are animating the story to bring it to life. He was just reading. Then I went back and gave a relisten to Brad Wills' copy. I had rated that one with a 5-star performance and the story at 4 stars. Why, because I felt that telling come to life in my head while he was reading. I could see it play like a movie. I could feel what was happening and he got me invested. That's what audible is about.

I do like the story and will keep both copies, but the original is just better. I had to change my complaint about the ending after my relisten also. I still didn't like the way the king's knight treated the hero's wife, but I better understand his reasoning after listening. The king's knight comes and shows no compassion for the wife of a trusted friend who he knows is truly innocent of the charges filed against him. This same knight flips and helps the accused get out of those charges. I would think he would have had that kind of thinking all along. I know that a knight was to obey the king's directive, but what about the "Knighthood Code"? Anyway, it's a good story and worth a credit.

Oh, and the hero was a very good and honest man and did not disappoint.
