About this listen

A decorated knight for Richard the Lionheart and an ally of the House of de Lohr, Sir Garret de Moray was a man described as cold, intimidating, foreboding. A man with eyes as black as night.

Receiving a royal appointment as Captain of the Household Guard, there was no man more qualified or prepared for the role because on the sands of the Holy Land where Garret went on Richard’s great quest, the Christian armies whispered of a knight whose wisdom was ancient. Some wondered if he was the walking dead, an immortal soul who had lived many lifetimes over, because his skill and power exceeded earthly restraints. Kronos, they called him. The father of the gods.

Then came a lady without hope…

Beautiful Lyssia du Bose has lost everything – her father, her home, her family. Taken in by an aunt who was a lady-in-waiting for the Duchess of Wendover, Lyssia finds a quiet existence in the shadows of a great home. A chance meeting with a warrior with eyes as black as night and, suddenly, her perspective on life begins to change. The quiet, sometimes-frightening knight took an interest in her, and she in him. Is it possible that someone should actually want her?

More than she knows. When Lyssia catches the Duke of Wendover’s attention as well, the gentle romance between her and Garret quickly becomes something they must fight to hold on to. When Garret, one of the most powerful knights in King Richard’s stable, is challenged by a married duke who wishes to make Lyssia his mistress, it is a battle that all of London will witness.

Different

After listening to the preview, the storyline wasn’t what I expected, but it wasn’t bad. If you are into medieval times then this book is for you. The narrator’s voice was perfect for this book, he did a good job with bringing to life the characters from this time period. It was worth the credit because it was different and interesting.

Really Enjoyed This Book 4.5 Stars

I am never disappointed with KLV's books and I am always looking for more. The way she tells a story just holds your attention. Even if there is a lull in the story, just hold on, it will get better. I like the two main characters, Garret and Lyssia and the way they were drawn to each other. I even like the character of the villian, and you must have a villian. This is my first time listening to Nick Cracknell and he does a nice job. Now I am looking for my next KLV book.

Stammering is not a problem for this man!

Garret de Moray meets and falls for Lyssa du Bose who has a stammering problem. This doesn't bother him at all and it turns out her stammering is part of what endears her to him. Garret was strong, intelligent, and handsome, and everything you want in a hero. Lyssa was sweet, innocent, and beautiful, yet strong in her own way and she was just what Garret needed. They come to care for each other very quickly after Garret saves her from some unwanted attention from unsavory characters. Garret has to save her a few times during the story, but it all works out very well.

There is a steady level of excitement and intrigue throughout the story and you see how this book leads into the "The Gorgon". The one part I hated hearing but know happened in more than one war was brother fighting brother. I found that hard to listen to knowing the kind of man one brother was fighting to defend. In the end, I was happy with the outcome.

This was my first book with Nick Cracknell doing the narration, and he did a wonderful job. There was an editing problem where there was a repeated sentence, but I can only remember this happening one time.

Well worth the credit.

Shield of Kronos

I really enjoyed listening to Nick Cracknell's narrative of Kathryn Le Veque's Shield of Kronos. He was very distinct with the many voices and love that Scottish brogue. Hope to hear more of Nick Cracknell.

A True Medieval Love Story

I thoroughly enjoyed this knight’s tale. The story moved along at a consistent pace realistic with its emotions and a cast of characters that enriched the story. I just wish a female could read the female role. I find it disconcerting to hear a male trying to imitate a feminine tone.
