About this listen

My life is one giant cycle of group deniability...

As a magic-less son of a witch owning a store full magical objects isn’t easy. But with my unhelpful Rottweiler Bailey and a handful of supernatural staff, we’ve sold everything from elfin wedding china to a life-size dwarven statue we don’t like to talk about.

Everything is going smoothly until a goblin customer starts coughing up a disgusting green goo. Little did I know as I watch that liquid spew from his mouth that his presence and that goo was going to send my life into a tailspin, leaving me in the cross-hairs of a murder.

Check out the goblin and the goo he produces in Green Goo Goblin.

Oh, this one was FUN!

This is a fun paranormal short story with excellent writing.

NB, there are evocative descriptions of bodily fluids, and not in a sexy way.

Do not read this while eating.
Seriously, do not.

That said, I enjoyed this! I don't tend to read that much paranormal stuff, but it's fun! Reminded me of those Dresden books that my husband loves. Fun characters, nicely immersive world, easy, contemporary language. Super easy to get into and enjoy, I can't wait to read the rest of the series!

Andrew Joseph Perez does incredible narration work, as usual. The characters are magnificently voiced, perfectly differentiated, and genuinely sound like real people. Reggie made me laugh, he was my favorite voice.

We get a taste of Scottish and Southern accents, which were are, of course, brilliant.

For fans of Charlene Harris

I really enjoyed this so much. The no magic son of a witch owns an antique store specializing in magical items. The writing style reminded me a lot of the Sookie Stackhouse books. While the story has a very Dresden Files feel. It was fully immersive and ended too soon. I’ve already bought the next book. I would highly recommend this fun jaunt into the supernatural world.

Murder, not much magic

It pretty much takes place inside an antique magic items store. No world building, no description of magic system, man and his dog and a cranky dwarf assistant, and a werewolf police friend. Not much in the way of a plot, gremlin dies after coughing up green goo in the shop. It becomes a murder mystery. Killer gremlin shows up to get a magic tool and admits to the murder while trying to break into the shop. Lots of adrenaline and angst. Happy ending. I know it's a very short piece, but really, there's nothing interesting happening, just a self-solving murder mystery with not much magic. I purchased it thinking it had to be good quality urban paranormal because of the great cover art. Alas, can't judge a book by its cover.
