About this listen

A socially anxious college student discovers she has superpowers—and they need babysitting—in the first book of an original superhero series.

Power Day occurs every year on September 15th. Across the world, formerly regular people awaken with superhuman abilities—and labels to go with them. They become the next generation of Heroes...and Villains.

September 15th is also Emily Wright’s first day on campus. While everyone else is out celebrating the start of their college career, Emily’s hiding in her dorm room. She wonders if it’s possible to earn a degree while completely avoiding eye contact with anyone.

All she wants is to learn a little and maybe get over her anxiety. Instead, she’s granted a superpower and categorized as villainous. So, Emily panics—and inadvertently conjures up a pint-size supervillain sidekick.

Emily has no intention of doing anything—evil or otherwise—with her powers. And if she has to babysit an increasing number of “little sisters” in order to stay under the radar, so be it.

But can Emily gain control of her life, or will she drown in a sea of supervillainy and cuddles?

A great read

This story is a great read but isn't without its downsides. 2 in particular that put me off at times was that the entire book started and was based around misunderstanding, so much so that it was comical at points. The other one being at times it almost felt like the book was written to promote Communist propaganda with how hard it was pushed. I know that it was just in relation to the story itself and the characters, but it really felt like it harped on it for a long while at the beginning of the book. On the flip side, one thing I really enjoyed was the small Easter egg the author wrote into the book in referencing their other book series "Cinnamon bun". if you follow that series as well and are a keen listener, you should also notice it. It was subtle but fitting, did not need to be there and played no role in the story, but it was a nice little bone for the people who follow Ravensdagger.

I would try 1.35x

I'm not going to take any stars off because I haven't finished the book yet and I won't review the quality of the writing for the time being.

I just wanted to warn that other people might also have found the reading to be a bit slow. My mind started to wander because of the pace and I had to keep rewinding. I did find that increasing the speed to 1.35x entirely fixed that issue and didn't cause too much distortion to the reader's voice.

Unfortunately that does cause it to become a shorter listen but it's still worth it. I wouldn't blame Podium for artificially increasing the length of the audiobook to help with sales because I like many of the books they've worked on. This is just a personal preference that saved me from abandoning the book.

Wholesome

Since I love the Cinnamon Bun Books I gave this one a try and was not disappointed. The Main Character is likeable and really developed from shy wallflower to a more confident young woman in the span if the book . If you liked Cinnamon Bun you will like Fluff as well.

I need this series to be continued

This was such a joy from start to finish. it managed to keep being exciting and suspenseful while being super wholesome. The characters all kept distinct personalities, which was great with such a big cast. I really loved this book and want this to become a full series. I can't recommend this enough.

awesome superhero/villain plot and narration

pros:
This was a great book relating to a new hero type of universe.
it's entertaining enough to do a full read-through without getting bored and the story has some decent progression.
The narration is awesome.

cons: the continued use of alt-analogs for real world things gets annoying like "I jumped on my pc and ogled the thing" but it's needed for copyright reasons in some places or something I guess so its all right.
