Fun dog inspired story

This book was cute and fun to listen to. I wish the author would have given a little more background about Sam's previous life before returning home.Sam uses her experience as a crime writer to help solve a murder mystery. There are lots of twist and turns with a little doggy Yoga thrown in to the mix. I loved how dog obsessed the whole town is. The story felt like it needed a little more development and detail I found myself having to rewind because I got distracted but over all it was a good story to listen to. The narrator did a good job but the sound quality was very poor it sounded like it was recorded in a closet. I received this book for free for an honest review.

Greyhound at the Gravesite

“I was voluntarily provided this free review copy audiobook by the author, narrator, or publisher.”

The characters, human and animal alike capture you almost immediately in this charming book about humans and their pets. Although there were some errors about greyhounds...I've been told that greyhounds do not get "rescued" they get "adopted" a friend of mine was actually insulted that the author used the wrong pretense (she owns 2 greyhounds).

After being fired and being ditched by her boyfriend Kyla moves back home but in order for her to get out of her parents home she needs a job & takes the only job available, Pet Reporter. Although it is below Kyla's status, she takes the job and is determined to become the best Pet Reporter she can be, unfortunately on her first assignment she finds a dead body and the adventure begins.

I'm looking forward to the next installment.

Happy Reading.

Really liked it!

This was a really cute new cozy mystery! It was a fun start to a new series and I'm anxious to hear more. I will say that I hope future installments are a little longer as I tend to look for around 8 hrs of listening at least to spend my credits on, and I think this series could do that in future books easily. I loved the unique setting of this book, a dog obsessed town & told from the perspective of a "pets reporter" who used to be a crime reporter in Chicago, lots of potential there! I also really appreciated that I didn't notice one single bit of foul language in this book, Kudos Ms Colby, keep it up!

Lane Cannon also did a good job with the narration. There wasn't much difference between characters' voices, thus the 3 stars, but overall she was really enjoyable to listen to. If I could have given 3.5 stars I would have. If she had differentiated the voices more this would have been a solid 4 or 5 star performance.

The recording had a couple of small issues, it had a tinny quality, but it wasn't overpowering or even distracting once you got used to it. There were also several times when the recording repeated a handful of words over again, I didn't memorize specific instances from the book, but it would be something like 'she looked in the mirror and saw, she looked in the mirror and saw...'. It didn't ruin the book, or even distract much, but it was noticeable.

If you are a cozy mystery fan, give this one a try. You won't be sorry!

Cozy Mystery

I did not know who did it until the end, I think this is due to the fact that there were quite a few suspects as well as other secondary characters. It took me a while to remember who is who. However, there are twist and turns and I liked the idea of the animals, I thought it was interesting.
My one negative for this book, which is why I gave it three stars, is because the author has written this in the third person which is not a bad thing but when she uses the main characters name Samantha a lot in a paragraph it get irritating. Also instead of using he said she did, etc between two people since they are the only two there so we would know who is saying what, the author uses Tom did, Sam said, Tom went, Sam laughed, etc. Not once, that I can remember did the author use he or she to change it a bit. I do believe the book needs editing but other then this it is not a bad book.

As for the narrator, she is not bad but the audiobook like the book also needs editing. One moment the sound was low then next loud, the narrator repeating a few sentences or words and at one moment she even clapped her hand.

Cute Cozy Mystery

The idea of a pet reporter coming up on a murder was fun. It didn't seem too far fetched to begin with but bringing into the story the fact that she used to be a crime reporter was a great idea. It explains all her questions and snooping instead of making a character who is just sticking her nose into everyone's business. I had some problems with the narration messing up a few times but overall it was a good book and worth a listen. A cute cozy with fun characters!

This is such a cute cozy! It has all the fun of a character being “new” in town and finding her way, plus mystery, plus a little bit of romance. Sam is a strong lead heroine who is quick on her feet & strong minded (which I love). The narration was well done in a sense that she differentiated characters well & brought them to life. However, the actual recording has a lot of repeats & sound changes (mainly in the beginning) which is distracting. It seems like the editing wasn’t well done & hopefully that can be tidied up a bit, because this book is so enjoyable! I was given a review copy & have shared my honest views.

Cozy Animals

Greyhound at the Gravesite: Pets Reporter Mystery
: Kyla Colby

I like the idea of a newspaper having a pet reporter. It is a setting for a new cozy mystery. Sam goes out on her first assignment and the fun begins. Twists, turns and a surprise or two along the way. There are lots of suspects, and did I mention pets? I'll give future books in this series a try.

The narration needed a bit of work. It was nerve racking when in the beginning the changes between characters the volume didn't match. In several places the narrator either lost her place or re-read the same sentences, making it a bit jerky. A bit of better editing couldn't hurt. Lane Cannon's voice is pleasant and she does put feeling in the reading.

Fun Cozy Mystery!

Samantha has a breakdown on camera while working as a crime reporter in the big city. She returns to her family and hometown to start over. She is given a job with the local newspaper as a pet reporter. Sam goes to interview her first client and finds her dead, Is it natural causes or foul play?!! Sam must investigate as the police are doing nothing.

This was a great story with a surprise ending and interesting characters. The story was nicely read by the narrator but I gave it a 3 instead of a 5 because of the recording errors that need to be fixed. Otherwise, great book!
