Publisher's summary

Kyra Greene is out of this world—literally. Jacoby, her fire dervish, has been lost in the Nether for weeks. Only Kyra can find him, but not without help from her estranged father. There's only one snag in that plan. Daddy is dead.

To save Jacoby, Kyra will travel between worlds with her band of misfit creatures. And this time, she won't be facing ghosts from Mason's past. She'll be going head to head with the distant dryad branch of her family and maybe digging up a few ghosts of her own.

Love this narrator

First off, I just have to say, this is so far my favorite audiobook narrator! The different voices of the characters are all so amazing and actually sound like more than just one person!
Now to the review part! This is book 4 of the Valkyrie Bestiary series. In this book, Kyra is finally getting to learn how to help Jacoby. With Norie’s help (audiobook so not sure about spelling), Kyra will be able to travel to the Nether to find him. So Kyra, Mason, Princess, Norie and Clarence travel through the in between to find her dad, the dryad tree. After dealing with dryad family, she must ask her father for help traveling worlds. And of course, nothing in the Nether will be easy, even with a grimalkin for a guide. And it seems finding Jacoby isn’t her task while traveling worlds.
I love all the creatures in these books and this one is no exception. Many creatures new to me and some that I love, like harpies.
With this book though, I did get a little upset with Kyra on behalf of Mason. She thinks she is protecting him not even thinking she may be belittling him. But I do wish Mason would just come out and say how he feels!
And the interaction with Kyra and her dad! All the feels!
I am glad I get her heart “Kyra lady” again and that the menagerie has been reunited and gotten an addition or 2! I can’t wait to see what will happen with Mason after the trials!

Another Great Book in this Series

I really love the various critters and people of this Series. Narrator does a good job with the various characters voices and the entire storyline. On to the next Audible book if Available.

Kyra annoyed me a bit in this one

I was constantly annoyed by Kyra in this book, she just felt whiny and overbearing. I loved the plot of saving Jakoby(spelling?), and some of her history that was touched on. The story seemed a little choppy though, like the characters jumped from place to place without the in between moments.
*spoilers
Then the ending was all crammed into an epilogue. Kyra says that Grim isn't there, not sure where he is, then they go home. Suddenly the last few sentences of the book are Kyra talking about Grim laying by the fire place with a white female cat that Kyra says "I'm going to like her" Where's the story? When did Grim come back?

Interesting world building but Kyra is annoying

On the positive side, the narrator is awesome, the world building is interesting, and the creatures are fun. The story is pretty good also, but…
On the negative side the main character Kyra waivers back and forth between over confidence and gross incompetence. She slips and falls when fighting so often that I can almost predict when it will happen again. Kyra is supposed to be a Valkyrie who trained for years and years and is now almost 80 years old. She also has the emotional maturity level and the impulsiveness I would expect from a teenager. People constantly warn her against doing certain things, but then she does them anyway and gets herself and her friends into trouble - repeatedly. When you’re in a combat situation, and somebody says, get down and be quiet. You do it, you don’t stand around and chat until the bad guys notice you. If it wasn’t for her major character flaws, I would’ve given the series a much higher review. I might try one more book and see if she shows any sign of developing more self control and emotional maturity, but I’m not sure.
