Publisher's summary

The final novel of the Forerunner Saga trilogy by science-fiction legend Greg Bear - set in the Halo universe and based on the New York Times best-selling video game series!

One hundred thousand years ago, Chaos rules the final days of the Forerunner empire. The Flood - a horrifying, shape-changing, and unstoppable parasite - has arrived in force, aided by unexpected allies, and internal strife has desperately weakened Forerunner defenses.

Facing the imminent collapse of their civilization, the Forerunners known as the Ur-Didact and the Librarian reveal what they know about the relationship between the long-vanished race of the Precursors and the Flood. While the Precursors created many technological species, including those of the Forerunners and humanity itself, the roots of the Flood may be found in an act of enormous barbarity, carried out beyond our galaxy 10 million years before. Because of that savagery, a greater evil looms.

Only the Ur-Didact and the Librarian - husband and wife pushed into desperate conflict - hold the keys to a solution. As they face the consequences of a mythic tragedy, one of them must now commit the greatest atrocity of all time - a shocking act designed to prevent an insane abomination from dominating the entire galaxy....

Great book

Great book, with a bitter-sweet finale. Lots of ground is covered in this and unlike certain points in Primordium(still a good book), I was never bored/

Couldn’t put it down!!

Silentium delivers an exceptional ending to the Forerunner saga. The novel is an information overload, doing a great job of connecting the final pieces of the puzzle and setting the stage for the next phases in the Halo universe. It’s fast pace directly contradicts to the previous novel and keeps you on the edge of the page from start to finish!

Not the expected ending

Found this book a little harder to follow, as it changes points of view quite frequently. I was pulling for the main Didact the whole time, so his ending kind of broke my heart. The conclusion of this series will be something I will never forget as these three books together told a wonderful and engaging story.

One of the best books in the series!

I love halo and all the lore, mystery and realism of the series. The books are great at building on the epic story of the halo universe and this one is an essential read.

fills in the back story very well

as all of the forerunner books do this fills in all the gaps in your imagination. gives extremely detailed imaging of characters and places and fills in the backstory on several characters from the previous books as well as a couple from the game. if you read any of the books about the forerunners be sure that this is one you read. my only complaint is that it could have been longer. very much enjoyed all of the books I have read(listened to). now I'm on to the next one!!!

Much better than the first two of the trilogy.

In the prior to books, and especially the second one, I felt as though I was learning a whole lot of nothing throughout most of the book. I felt like I got filler upon filler upon useless events I didn't care much for. Then, all of the sudden, towards the final chapters of the books, exposition dump. that was irritating for me. And maybe I just have a poor imagination, but my mind had trouble picturing things being described in this book. There was also quite a few times I felt like way too much time and text was being spent describing something so insignificant.

In this book, Silentium, I felt like I was getting a good balance of character story and a healthy amount of the lore I was looking for throughout the entirety of the book. The best book of the trilogy.

Halo background story

if you want to know more about the halo's and their functions, secrets and how they were made, this is a great finish to a trilogy that tells an intresting story for the background of halo.
