About this listen

Harley Jameson is not your typical woman. She's a rough and tumble, beer drinking, hockey loving, smart-mouthed kind of woman. In fact, she owns her own contracting company. Most men just treat her as one of the guys; that is, until she meets her newest client....

Nolan Hammerstein is most definitely not a guy's guy. He's rich, spoiled, well dressed, and oh yeah - rich. His father owns the NHL's Boston Bruisers, and he's worked for his father since graduating from Harvard. Needless to say, he lives the life of luxury. When he purchases a new home, Nolan calls Jameson Contractors to schedule a consult with a man that he thinks is the owner....

Harley and Nolan's first meeting does not go well, so you can imagine her surprise when he actually hires her to renovate his house. While snarky comments and arguments are simmering on the surface, sexual attraction and tension are brewing underneath. But will Nolan's uptight father and a handsy hockey player get in between their already volatile relationship? Or will they learn to accept each other's differences and bond tighter because of them?

Note: This book is a standalone with a HEA. For mature audiences only, as there are hot, steamy, and explicit sex scenes throughout the book.

The story had potential but didn't really like it

The start was intersting and I liked the surprise of the contractor being a woman and the whole "opposites attract" thing. But the characters are shallow, the story predictable and the male narrator sounds a bit like a lawyer quoting the clause of the law.

Nailed it!!!

The author of this book was new to me along with the narrators. I thought they "nailed" it!!! The humor, romance and story was great. I found this to be an original story. I was voluntarily provided with this review copy audiobook by the author, narrator, and/or publisher. I will definitely look for more books by the author and narrators.

ANDRIA LARGE NAILED IT!!!

What a fun entertaining quick listen! It was FUNNY, SWEET, and the reverse character roles was REFRESHING!

May Contain Spoilers:
Opposites attract are among my favorites, and Nolan (hero) and Harley (heroine) were as different as night and day, and mixed as well as oil and water. Their first encounter was HILARIOUS! Harley isn't your everyday female character, she sassy, quick witted, sarcastic, and had a tomboy streak. I loved her confidence, and unapologetic attitude, you either accepted her or not. Her family was very supportive of her taking over the construction company. Nolan was your typical rich guy, granted a sexy one, but he was raised to believe women had a place .... just not in a man's workforce. Needing his house renovated, he calls Harley's Construction company, imagine his surprise when a woman shows up. Since she's already there, he reluctantly allows her to take measurements, and gives him a quote, but he's already decided he will be calling other construction companies. Harley's sure this pompous, arrogant jerk will not be calling her, but is shocked when she gets the job. The more time they spend together, the more he comes to see the fault in his father's way of thinking. As he develops feelings for Harley, his character grows and evolves. These two opposites made an awesome couple! The romance was both sweet, and steamy!

The secondary characters were great, and added to the overall appeal of the story.

Another awesome performance by Veronica, and Marcio. I loved how Veronica portrayed Harley's character, and her Boston accent.

Hammer and Nails was cute, funny, and left a smile on my face. I received this audio from the publisher for an honest review, and enjoyed listening.

Great Story

What did you love best about Hammer & Nails?

Hammer & Nails by Adria Large was an enjoyable book to listen to. I listened to the unabridged version and sometimes it was SO detailed that I would space out a bit. Overall I enjoyed the story of Harley and Nolan. Nolan started out as a rich snob and Harley as a working class hockey fan and as the story moved along, we learned that perception isn't always the reality.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Hammer & Nails?

Harley and Nolan's banter is very funny. They have an easy way about themselves and both are strong characters who know what they want.

Which scene was your favorite?

I enjoyed "meeting" Harley's brothers. I hope they get their story told some day.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I listened to this book over the course of a week. It was told/read/written in such a way that the story continued to flow. I didn't have to go back to recap.

Any additional comments?

I wish this was read without the Boston accent. Being from Boston there were times when, both actors' "Boston accent" made Harley sound like she had a speech impediment. I enjoyed the actors voices and the way the story is told, that is the ONLY thing about the book that I didn't like. I would recommend this book in both print and Audible version to friends.

Nice and sweet.

Such a sweet, low angst book.

I loved that the main female character, Harley, was so tough. A strong female lead is always a plus in my book. Then you counteract that with an alpha manly man and it makes for such an interesting relationship.

There was a lot of heat and a lot of humor. Just a nice, easy read that makes you feel all warm and fuzzy.

I've said this in my last, well, every review with Veronica as narrator... she is perfection! I can see a very big future ahead of her in this industry. She is she to portray multiple characters without coming across cheesy or disingenuous. Marcio is like a worn in pair of jeans. They aren't perfect, but you just love to wear them anyway.

Horrible accents

I rarely stop listening to audio books, but I couldn’t get through this one. The Boston accent that the female narrator does is so horrible. The male narrator is almost as bad at it. Tell me how the female character had such a strong grating accent while her brother had none?

Got to love that Sass

I loved the spark and fire between Harley and Nolan. This is a really great story and I loved every moment of it. Veronica did an amazing job narrating for Harley and constantly made me smile. Marcio did a great job as Nolan, but when he tried Harley's voice the accent felt a little off. Even with that I still loved listening to these two narrate.

Quick Romance with some hot scenes

What did you like best about Hammer & Nails? What did you like least?

I liked how opposite the main characters were but how it all worked out for them. Harley is a little rougher than I'd like her to be and even Nolan admits if it was any other girl he would be turned off.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

Harley's accent was not my favorite at all. I am a fan of both the narrators but I would suggest leaving the Boston accent out and just reading the story as it is. It is clear through out the book Harley and her family are Boston natives.

Was Hammer & Nails worth the listening time?

Hammer & Nails was a quick reading romance that was humorous and not too much unnecessary drama. It was nice to have a book with a relationship between two adults acting like adults.
