About this listen

A seemingly normal young woman with a love and passion for the sea, Serena makes a drastic change and moves to Hawaii to follow her dreams of becoming a marine biologist. But she soon discovers that her mother has carried a secret about her all her life that will change everything.

Thetis, a sea nymph, goddess of water, daughter of the ancient sea god Nereus, was banished from Atlantis and Olympia to live amongst the human realm in fear of a prophecy foretold that she would bear a child from Zeus, a child more powerful than Zeus himself. A child who could flip the tides and overthrow the king of the Gods. Zeus and all the Olympian gods could not allow this prophecy to take place, and give birth to a figure of cosmic capacity, capable of unsettling the divine order. For thousands of years, it was believed that the prophecy was avoided until Iris, female messenger of the gods brings forth a message that will change everything! After all, it was foolish to believe that one could escape destiny.

BY THE GODS

THE STORY IS FANTASTICAL AND MAGICAL! THE STORY HAS DEPTH AND ROMANCE, AND THE STORY IS NOT CLEAN, THE NARRATORS ARE WONDERFUL WITH TELLING THE STORY.
I DO BELIEVE THAT THE STORIES COULD HAVE EASILY BEEN WRITTEN WITHOUT ANY SEX SCENES.

Hanging In The Balance is the first novel in the Divine Order of the Olympians series by Catherine Gagnon
I really enjoyed this take on Greek mythology and Atlantis. Intriguing storyline and I found the characters very likable. The audio narration is also very well done and enjoyable. Looking forward to more from this author and series!!

An interesting greek mythology story!

Catherine Gagnon writes an interesting mix of greek mythology, action, and romance. Overall I enjoyed the story from start to finish. The story reads a bit awkward at times, as if the author is still trying to find her prose, but it doesnt take away enough to stray away from the series. I look forward to book 2. Narrated by: Jamie Renell and Suzanne T. Fortin do a good job with the narration and their respective characters.

Serena and Her Not so Serene Adventure

My rating is closer to a 3.75, rounding up to 4.

This was an interesting take on the myth of the Greek deities. While most of the mythology was kept the same about them, there were still nuggets of change sprinkled in the storyline. It was also fun having them interact as stereotypical gods rather than newer contemporary versions of themselves. Except for Ares. He can go fly a kite in the thunderstorm.
Serena was a character I wanted to like more. She was genuine and nice and I did like her, but she was missing an element to make her "real" to me. Her life gets thrown through many (MANY) hoops and she tries to come to terms with it, but there are so many people who low key micromanage her. It was nice during the times when she was allowed to be herself and just have fun. She has a lot to give and I'm interested in seeing how her story plays out in the other books.
The story sometimes was a little bogged down with details at times, kind of reminding me of how Tolkien describes everything, even if it isn't plot relevant. The details were nice, but I sometimes forgot what was actually happening in the story. There is a large cast of characters and the perspective switched quickly between them as the occasion called for it; I didn't have too much trouble following along with it and I thought the extra perspectives added to the story. My favorite perspective and character is probably Hades and I would love to see it if he had a new guest in Tartarus brought to him by Hermes, my second favorite character.
I am curious to see where Serena and co go with the next books in the series. This one ends of a cliff hanger, but the next one is already out!

The narrators both did a good job and were articulate. I thought they did a fine job differentiating between the character's thoughts and voices.

TW: There is a scene in included that might be disconcerting for some readers/listeners.

Hanging in the Balance

This is the first book in The Divine Order of the Olympians. I love when Greek mythology and the modern day collide. This book has a lot of characters. Something is always happening. This book does end on a cliffhanger. Jamie Renell and Susanne T Fortin did a great job narrating.

4 star listen

Great start to a series
I’m always a fan of the Olympians
I liked this take on them.

We meet Triton our mmc and Ariel his daughter, I loved this! They have never been in the Olympian gods books I’ve listened to before.

And also there are the fan favourites as well as our fmc serena who’s father is Zeus and mother is queen of the sea nymphs.

4 star listen, I’m looking forward to the second book in the series. Gifted audio done in duel narration.

Great Series Starter

This was a great collaboration between author and narrators. I was entertained from start to finish. The characters were endearing while the story line kept coming back for more. I can't wait to see what happens in the next book.

I received a copy of the audiobook and I am voluntarily leaving my honest review.

mythology

If you love Greek Mythology and the history of it, this would be one for you! Catherine Gagnon story is very well detailed with plenty of information of the Gods and Goddesses of mythology. This story kept my interest and was intriguing how Iris is maturing and learning about the secret behind her existence. The story ends in a cliffhanger and I can't wait to see whats next.
Jamie Renell and Suzanne T. Fortin narration is very good.

Greek Mythology colliding with the Modern World!

This was my first Catherine Gagnon's book, and won't be my last. This is the first book in The Divine Order of the Olympians Series. The cast of characters is impressive, and I loved to have multiple POV’s. The characters are well developed and intriguing. The storyline is original, intricate and captivating. The world building is fantastic, and complex. I liked the Greek Mythology colliding with the Modern World. The story ends with a cliffhanger, and I am looking forward to listening to the next book in the Series. Jamie Renell and Suzanne T. Fortin did an excellent job with the narration. #AudiobookObsession #PinkFlamingoProductions
