Real-World Training in "The Practice of Happiness" with Thich Nhat Hanh.

Look deeply into the nature of the mind and you will find the seeds of true happiness and freedom. This was the Buddha's great realization - and it is a discovery that you, too, can make in any moment. With Happiness, Love, and Liberation, you will join Thich Nhat Hanh for seven sessions of advanced teachings and rare insights discovered throughout his seven-decade inquiry into the truths of Buddhist psychology. Understanding the Roots of Suffering - the First Step Toward Freedom. What are the ingredients for a life of genuine happiness? According to Thich Nhat Hanh, happiness only arises through a deep understanding of the roots of suffering - and through the cultivation of joy, love, and compassion that comes with daily practice of mindfulness and meditation.

Offering in-depth instruction in applying foundational Buddhist principles backed by modern science, he provides inspiration and support for healing the habits that lead to suffering and opening to the miracle of life in the here and now. From guidance to sitting and walking meditation to an examination of key Buddhist teachings including the Diamond Sutra, the Heart Sutra, and much more, these seven audio-learning sessions are intended to help us release our worries about past and future - and start living with ease in joyful recognition of the gifts of the present moment. Highlights:

  • How mindfulness and concentration generate happiness and joy
  • Meditation as an antidote to agitation and anxiety
  • Four basic breathing exercises for accessing peace at any time
  • Releasing concepts that lead to suffering
  • "Every step a miracle" - the art of walking meditation
  • Our intimate connection to our "spiritual ancestors
  • The evolution of science and philosophy
  • Zen practice: toward a fuller understanding of reality

Voice of the Buddha

the title describes it all. as always, this book delivers all it promises. with clarity that is easily understood by the Western mind, deeper understanding it is revealed with each listening. the first time through you find yourself questioning and opening understanding 2 new thoughts. the second time through the thoughts become clear. the third time parts of you awaken you never knew existed. I will enjoy this book over and over.

Great Deep Teachings

This is a series of talks given by Thay during a retreat, and these teachings are very deep and complex. He dives into Buddhist psychological concepts. Very interesting and one I will need to listen to again to fully process. Great for those already familiar with Thay’s works and Buddhism, but I wouldn’t recommend for a beginner or someone new to Buddhism

Lots of Value

I think there is so much value in listening to Thich Nhat Hanh and he has gentle yet perfect comedic timing. I had to look some things up and find clarification on some things he said and discussed, but I will be recommending this to my older kids for sure.

Precious book

This book is such a gift. More than a book it is actually the recorded lectures given by Thich Nhat Hanh at a several day retreat. Those who were fortunate enough to attend any of these retreats almost always describe the experience as life changing and profoundly uplifting. If you experience it as if you were a participant in a retreat, you will also find it so. Don’t rush through it. Think about the meaning and value each chapter brings to your own life. Practice the meditations he shares in many of them. Feel like you are sitting in the room with this great teacher who dedicated his life to sharing the wisdom of both what he was taught as a monk in Vietnam and his own experience of using that wisdom to help himself and others survive and flourish throughout the horrendous war in Vietnam and a 40 year exile from his beloved home. He transformed his own suffering into the beautiful gift of mindfulness which he introduced into the West. There is a similar recorded Retreat “Body and Mind are One” also available on Audible that may be the perfect starting point for your own journey.

Gives the Guidance of an Elder

I truly enjoy this series of talks in Thay's own words. I listen to this during my commute to work to keep me present and calm. I also listen during breaks at work to help keep me grounded and to remind me not to be carried away by the demands of the office. I am required to speak to several bank clients each day. I attribute Thich Nhat Hanh's teaching for showing me the proper way to listen, understand the client's suffering and respond in an empathetic manner.

Simple, profound, beautiful.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I have read extensively around the subject of Buddhism, attended different classes etc. and simply ended up being confused. There is no need to read anything else anymore; I followed my heart and have realised that Ticht Nhat Hanh has Buddha nature and is superb at delivering Dharma and talking about dharma. His books are all you need.
